Mindfulness Practice: Opening Up To The Possible!

inner-peace-is-where-you-choose-it-to-be

Your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs create the landscape in your mind that you call “here.” The challenging element is that it’s not fixed. Even while you inhabit it, it is changing based on your perception.

Your inner landscape reflects your feelings and the thoughts that are connected to them.

Two people can encounter the same situation and have completely different reactions based on their own history and stories. For instance, one person sees a picture of the Eiffel Tower and feels excitement and romance because it’s where their partner proposed. Another sees the same picture and feels sick to their stomach because it reminds them of the trip to France that led to a romantic breakup. Same photo, two very different responses rooted in their own individual experiences.

The ground beneath you, the atmosphere around you, and the energy within you can all shift in an instant as you react to what you perceive as happening in your life.

Past or Present? It’s Hard to Tell…

Compassion And Connection: Fulfilling Our Divine Purpose!

compassion

As spiritual souls having a human experience, our Divine purpose on earth is to actualize into the best version of ourselves. We do this through service to others.

Even if you don’t consider yourself a healer, we are all here to support the world’s healing. We do so by focusing on our own alignment. When we personally are aligned with the Universe, we are bringing more harmony to the world and helping to heal the collective whole.

Compassionate Action: A Radical Approach To Giving Back!

helpful-team-of-social-workers-picture-id1170507240

The other day, I was on one of my rare excursions outside our home at the local grocery store. I was there with my basket of gluten-free bread, eggs, milk (okay, fine, I had a few gluten-free chocolate chip cookies in there, too!). Above the checkout area was a large, handwritten sign lettered in Sharpie that said:

“Please be kind to the staff. They are here to serve you during these trying times.”

At first, I thought, “How nice!” After all, I adore and appreciate any intentional reminder for kindness and love.

But then it occurred to me that something must have happened to require someone to take the time to write the sign and put it up. Actually, something must have happened more than once.

How many customers had snapped at the cashiers over the past 12 months? (I actually asked the cashier and she told me a few nasty stories!)

How many people had sworn at the stock clerks because there was no toilet paper left on the shelves?

How many complaints, angry voices, and frustrations had been taken out on others?

And suddenly, that sweet sign made me sad because of the hurt and suffering that was behind its creation.

Oracle Card Spreads For Love And Relationships!

loveandrelationships

One of the most common areas people seek guidance from the Oracle is regarding love and romantic relationships. And no wonder! The sacred mysteries of love invite us into an exploration of what it means to be a spiritual being in a physical body. It is one of the ways we are able to fully experience our humanity. It can make us feel vulnerable and empowered, ecstatic and despairing. And of course, any topic that is so full of strong emotions will be one we want to know more about!

Your Divine Path to Love

For many people, the mere mention of romantic love makes them roll their eyes and reach for the nearest pint of ice cream. They’ve been there, done that, and have the battle scars to prove it. After a few times of showing the soft underbelly of your inner self to another, only to have them mishandle your heart. Ouch!

Forgiveness For Yourself: A Ritual For Practicing Compassion and Love!

mixed-race-woman-laughing-with-crossed-arms-picture-id1178928986

In February, our attention is often pulled to thoughts of love and romance, including heart-shaped boxes of chocolates, candlelit dinners, and dozens of roses from a partner who adores us. But while romantic relationships can make our hearts beat a wild tango (and are a delightful facet of our human existence!) here’s what I know to be true:

You can only love another to the extent you love yourself.

And self-love is rooted in self-forgiveness. Generosity of the heart, reverence, respect, and empathy for all living things bring you profound power to live a life of happiness and contentment. And that includes generosity, empathy, and compassion for yourself!

Manifesting Your Spiritual Community In 2021

candle-picture-id639302904

Now more than ever, intentional community has become more essential to our spiritual health and well-being. Because of our current realities, we are all searching for new ways of connecting and creating support for and with each other. Trust me: It’s quite a challenge for any living thing to grow in isolation — even some gardeners believe in the concept of “companion planting,” whereby seedlings thrive when they have neighbors nearby!

Over the past months, I’ve often thought of this quote from Game of Thrones: “In the storm the lone wolf perishes but the pack will survive.” It can feel like we are in a storm right now, turbulence of a world gone off-kilter. We cannot go it alone… we must reach out to each other!

At some level, you already know that’s true (which is why you are reading this… There are no accidents!). We are designed for relationship. But in our current age of digital overload, spiritual seekers express three main concerns or blocks to pursuing intentional connection and community.

See if any of the following sound familiar to you:

How To Pull Oracle Cards For the New Year!

crystal-ball-in-a-hand-prediction-for-new-year-2021-on-abstract-shiny-picture-id1279175030 As we look at the year ahead, our minds are filled with all sorts of questions and uncertainties…

“What should I focus on this year?”

“What really matters to me?”

“How can I best prepare myself for the path ahead?” and

“Will there be lines for toilet paper again?!?!”

Well, I’m not sure about the last question (I sure hope not, though…Charmin for all!), but I do know where you can turn for some guidance about what the Universe has in store for 2021: Oracle Cards!

Intention Setting with Oracle Cards

Doing an Oracle reading can help you set your intentions for the months ahead, as well as where you might want to turn your attention, where challenges might be waiting, and how to effectively move forward.

I’ve been working with divination tools for over three decades (yes, I know… I started when I was four… 😉 ). I sensed early on that there was more to the world than what I could see and touch, and these tools offered me a way to explore and discover more about the Divine nature that unites us all.

How To Start Your Spiritual Journey In The New Year!

spiritualjourney

Does a “spiritual journey” sometimes feel like something only special people with magical access or a whole lotta time, money and emotional space get to do, or even think about?

I remember feeling like that at times in my life, especially when I hit bottom from alcoholism 35 years ago (yup, just turned 35 years clean and sober a week ago!)

Around that same time, my parents had just literally lost everything – their house, whatever money they had saved – and I felt like we were all drowning. I honestly thought any kind of spiritual connection for me was irreparably broken and whatever God there was operating in my life, was following me around with a fly swatter.

But this, too, was part of my journey. I was being called to surrender to Spirit, to learn the dance steps, and to follow along.

And so, let me assure you that no matter what is going on in your life, however you may have been let down, whatever temporary outer conditions may have you believing you shouldn’t or can’t or don’t deserve access, that you 100 percent HAVE your own spiritual journey. Hello! In fact, you’re already on one right now!

Creating A New Vision For The New Year!

young-woman-walking-up-the-old-stone-stairs-picture-id1265440694

Welcome, 2021!

We have so many hopes pinned on this new year. It will take us a while to process and implement the vast need for social change and healing illuminated in 2020. Maybe in the past we’d say “that’s it” for last year and be quite glad to see it in our rear-view mirror. But this paradigm shift will require us to pause and take a deep respectful breath of hope knowing there is still a lot of patience and work still ahead as we traverse the in between time from what was to what will be.

The old way is being dismantled and  being cleared away, and even if we’re not 100% where we hoped we’d be, we are still making room for more love, creativity, courage, compassion, hope…and joy. This and that will be true!

And, if there is one thing I know for sure.

How we consider and integrate the past has a huge impact on how we experience our future. “If we do what we did we’re gonna get what we got!”

Counting Down The New Year…The “WOO” Way!!

countdown

No matter where you are in the world, one of the most iconic events is counting down New Year’s Eve as the ball drops on Times Square or a series of breathtaking fireworks explode from barges in the Sydney Harbour or Singaporeans dance the last hours of the year away at the Siloso Beach Party. But chances are, for most of the world, New Year’s Eve (like everything else about 2020!) is gonna look a little (okay, a lot!) different.

Never fear, my friends!

Pandemic or no, we can count down to the New Year in style.

Join me for a seven-part “Woo” Year celebration!

SEVEN: 7 Ways to Cleanse Your Space

Nothing says, “New Year, New Woo” like cleaning out the old to make room for the new. Follow these steps to release energy, let go of the old, and C-L-E-A-N-S-E your physical and energetic space.

C – Crystals. Crystals have been used throughout history as sources of healing. Each crystal has its own energy, and each comes bearing its own message. For clearing, try amber, which can help release karma and heal family patterns; citrine, which is wonderful for letting go of negativity, and fluorite, which is effective for clarity and focus.

L – Light. With days much shorter in the Northern Hemisphere, some of us have to be intentional about getting our dose of the Sun. When you’re at home, open up those shades and let that natural light in, or go for a walk when the sun is shining( even if you have to bundle up as we do here in Ontario)!

E – Essential Oils. Use essential oils on diffusers! You’ll love the aroma in your home, and high-quality oils can assist in resetting your mood, lifting your energy, and even combatting germs.

A – Ambient Sounds. The sounds you surround yourself with can help create a sense of calm and wellbeing. Create sounds by ringing a bell, or a crystal singing bowl, or listening to my guided meditations on YouTube! By flooding your environment with positive sound waves, you’ll disturb the stagnant energy.

N – Nice & Neat. Physical clutter is trapped energy. Clear away stacks of papers, wipe down surfaces, and let go of the old. When you clean up, declutter and reorganize, you’ll unleash energy and usher in the new. S – Salt Scrub. While you’re cleaning away the old, don’t forget about detoxifying yourself! This DIY Himalayan Salt Scrub recipe is one of my favorites. Not only does it work wonders on dry, rough skin, it also helps detoxify your body through increased blood flow and exfoliation. You can use it for your hands, feet, and whole body:

The Key To Good Sleep – And Great Dreams!

sleeping-in-the-clouds-picture-id148282469

I’ve yet to find the person who would argue that getting enough quality sleep is a goal in their lives. We know it contributes to better health, lower stress, and even an easier time maintaining a healthy weight.

Even more, deep sleep offers a time for your mind to access a whole new world when your rational brain and ego are turned off. In this sacred space, there are no limits. You can fly, you can connect with loved ones who have passed over, you can be anyone and do anything.

Field of Dreams: Your Intuition Speaks

Your intuition can more easily send you messages during this time. The symbols and messages in our dreams can provide intuitive insight, directing us on our path and helping us connect with our higher knowledge, heal old wounds, work through problems, and even give insight into the future. More on that in a minute… but first, let’s talk about how TIRED we all are!

Colette's Holiday Gift Guide

Holiday-gift Colette’s Spiritual Self-Care Gift Guide

First off, can we just say that if there’s ever been a holiday season when we all deserve to treat ourselves and each other… it’s 2020!

As I’ve been looking for gifts to treat my friends, family, and — okay, I admit it — myself, I’ve been naturally pulled towards those that help us create a cocoon of self-care and nurturing (doesn’t that sound amazing?!).

So pull up a squishy chair, tuck your pajama-clad legs underneath you, grab a mug of something warm, and let’s do some self-care gift shopping!

Spiritual Self-Care Tips For A Stress-free Holiday

meditation-picture-id452584597 SIX SPIRITUAL SELF-CARE TIPS

The beautiful contradiction of the holiday season is this: We have an internal longing for peace, reflection, and harmony… yet our calendar (and our families!) often can send us in the opposite direction! As a result, holiday anxiety is a real thing this time of year.

The gap between our expectations (“We need this to be the best December ever!”) and our reality (“What? We can’t have the annual Ugly Holiday Sweater party, my mother is still haranguing me about my partner, and our company is looking at layoffs?!?! Happy f’ing Hanu-Kwan-Mas!”) can create even MORE drama and stress.

It’s easy to feel like we’re failing, or we’re not enough, or that life (and our jobs, and our families, and our friends, and our cooking, and well, everything) just sucks.

As I got older, as genuine loss and tragedy accompanied many of my family’s holiday events, we sat down with a good helping of sorrow, loss, fighting, and booze passed around the table like a bowl full of mashed potatoes (accompanied with a nice ladle of guilt and shame!). We wanted to create something different, but we just didn’t know-how. Outer conditions told us what our life meant. We didn’t know about the tools we needed to create an inner shift that would allow us to show up differently for each other.

The more stressed we are emotionally and physically, the more likely we’re going to fall into old patterns of behavior and thinking. That’s why it’s critical that you take time, push the pause button, and find nurturing ways for managing holiday stress.

I know, I know… you’ve heard everyone from Oprah to Gwyneth sing the praises of practicing gratitude and the importance of creating a gratitude journal.

But do these kinds of trendy approaches really work? You bet your sweet mystical pirate booty they do!

You know I love my “woo,” but I also want to ground everything in the practical. If it ain’t working, I ain’t wasting my time on it… which is why I can say with complete confidence that gratitude journaling is one of the most beneficial habits you can develop if you want more blessings, more magic, and more miracles in your life.

New Moon Intention Journaling!

woman-writing-journal-at-window-seat-in-coffee-shop-picture-id518033322 NEW MOON INTENTION SETTING

New moon alert!

STOP what you’re doing…

DROP your pen onto the page…

And ROLL out those soul-deep intentions!

With the moon moving into Scorpio on Nov. 15, there’s no better time to set big, gorgeous New Moon intentions. And there’s no better way to dive deep and create certainty around those New Moon intentions than by journaling!

Today, I’m going to talk a bit about the power of the New Moon for intention-setting and manifestation, what the New Moon in Scorpio means for us collectively, and how we can take advantage of this unique window of opportunity.

NEW MOON INTENTION SETTING

The first 48 hours of a New Moon is a window when our creative energy is at its pinnacle.

New Moons have two powerful days, the day of and the day after, where setting intentions are most powerful. That means we’re able to effortlessly embrace our role as co-manifestor with the Universe.

The Dark Moon (the night before the New Moon) provides us a perfect time to contemplate, meditate, and decide upon the intentions we want to see take root and flourish.

Healing The Fear Virus With Compassion!

be-of-those-who-lend-a-hand-where-they-can-picture-id894377512

When the whole Coronavirus stuff started to go down earlier this year, I noticed how another virus was spreading even faster than COVID: The fear virus. Fear was taking root and spreading around the globe faster than the speed of light.

Fear is contagious. And it’s easy to make it the enemy. But fear shouldn’t be viewed as the enemy itself.

In fact, I believe that when we make choices out of fear, we’re making choices to protect ourselves and those we love. It comes from a desire for self-preservation. Fear can be important. We need some level of an alarm system to keep us out of harm’s way.

Fear brings a message with it.

We can’t ignore it — because ignoring it simply buries the emotions. We can’t bypass it — because we have a lot of collective trauma that needs to be addressed and healed. I invite you to see fear as a valuable piece of information. Throw out the concept that you shouldn’t feel fear. At its core, fear is actually friendly. Fear wants to protect us, and is a biologically-rooted system that’s working on our behalf 24/7 to warn us of possible threats to our life. It’s trying to keep us safe and alive.

But we also don’t want to give in to it or give it more power than it warrants.

Your Part In The Global Symphony!

globalmusic

The other day, I came across the most moving video that I’ve seen in a long time. It’s called the Virtual Choir from Eric Whitacre, and the premise is simple: One man pulls together over 17,000 separate voices from 129 different countries in one single piece of music.

When I heard the voices blending, melding, lifting each other up in song and harmony, I couldn’t hold the tears back. “This is how it’s supposed to be!” I said to myself. “This is what Life is all about.”

Here’s their Virtual Choir 6:

Surrender To The Mystery!!

surrendertomystery Surrender To The Mystery!!

There’s so much going on right now that is impossible for us to comprehend.

Movements are taking place around us – but on planes we can’t readily access (and we’re not talking airplanes although I sure wish I could hop on one to see my friends.) Transitions, opportunities, alignments… but it’s outside our reach. Yet we long so desperately to understand!

How can we surrender to the mystery?

Here’s the deal: We can’t truly “get” what’s happening around us because the web of creation is so vast, so much more complex, so much more intricate than we could ever begin to grasp!

That’s hard for us, in our human state, to accept. (It kinda reminds me of when I was a little kid sitting at the adults’ table and the conversation went right over my head). We want to take part, to listen and to be heard… but we can’t exactly follow the train of thought! So we’re left grabbing little bits and pieces and getting frustrated because it doesn’t all fit together in a nice pretty package we can put in our pocket.

10 Ways To Stay Grounded

woman-doing-yoga-at-the-beach-picture-id1177568976-1 Ideas to help you calm and ground your energy

Change is in the air… On a societal level, on a natural level, and — based on what I’ve been hearing from my students and community — on a personal level as well.

The “nothing is as it was before” feeling we’ve been dealing with for what seems like a lifetime has collided with the natural rhythms of life and the Universe. In the northern hemisphere, we’re well into the fall season, a time full of transformation. Kids are back to school in some way, shape or form (hugs and blessings on parents and teachers as you navigate the ever-changing landscape of education!). And even though we’re developing creative ways to celebrate, holidays are upon us.

During this period, it’s essential to maintain your equilibrium. The earth is turning, but you can plant your feet firmly and enjoy the ride!

To help you reconnect with yourself and the world around you, here are 10 ways to stay grounded.

Who's Really In Charge?

relax-and-go-back-to-nature-yoga-at-night-solo-traveler-a-cheerful-picture-id1258126268

The other day, I woke up early and took my coffee out to our deck where I could just sit in silence with my dogs, letting emotions and thoughts wash over me. Lately, I’ve found myself pulled in different directions at once, and the tension has left me a bit (okay, a lot!) overwhelmed at times with so much going on around us.

I see the challenges of the larger world we live in — the pain, the struggles, the imperfections — and part of me gets sucked into grief and sadness. But at the same time, I see the beauty that surrounds us: People standing up for each other and using their voices to lift each other up, the natural artistry of the changing seasons, and the Divine love that weaves through and connects us all, from the largest mountain to the smallest blade of grass or speck of pollen. It’s all connected, yet we seem so separate at times!
