Even for those who aren’t Irish, St. Patrick’s Day is one of the most joyful holidays of the year. More than just a “Hallmark” holiday, it is celebrated in many countries around the world. This even led to Time Magazine calling it “the Most Global National Holiday.” Although St. Patrick’s Day is associated with Ireland, where St. Patrick is the patron saint, the holiday itself is perhaps most popular in the United States.

 

Sadly, many people only think of St. Patrick’s Day as an excuse to drink. The truth is that this holiday has a complex history based in actual facts. There are many ways to honor St. Patrick and honor the holiday without drinking.
