The relationship between stress and our physical health

physicalhealthandexercise The relationship between stress and our physical health

There exists an absolutely indefinable relationship between stress and our physical health. Of course we always say that a ''healthy body is a healthy mind'' and vice versa, but today's rampant situation of stress which is mainly considered a mind issue, needs to be addressed maybe more on the physical aspect as well. In other words I'm actually trying to promote physical exercise.

Most people who are health fanatics and exercise freaks swear by their fitness regime as the ultimate stress reliever. I somehow being the lazy creature that I am, have almost grudgingly started agreeing with them. Watching this increasing focus on the importance of exercise, my own perceptions of its importance have changed. This is not only because I started enjoying my own personal fitness routine, but it has also given me a chance to research on the various benefits of exercise as a conscious stress reliever.

The Reasons We Procrastinate and How To Beat It

bored-or-incompetent-businesswoman-at-work-picture-id621987808 The Reasons We Procrastinate and How To Beat It

Procrastination is an age old habit with most of us. We love to tell ourselves that we will put it off until the very last minute, but when this is really not possible anymore we begin to get into panic mode and rush to complete our task before the deadline situation.

Many a time we tell ourselves ''I'll just do it later as there is plenty of time.'' Before we know it time has flown past and we are pretty much faced with the reality of our incomplete task looming large in our face.

WHY DO WE PROCRASTINATE

Procrastination is actually a way our mind finds of coping with emotions we cannot deal with. They could almost be symptoms that accompany depression. It brings temporary relief because it is an easy habit to fall into as a panic mode. Our coping mechanism makes us avoid reality. But as we learn to avoid performing on time, and languish around, panic and depression begin to loom larger. Research says, that mostly students tend to procrastinate, as they have many deadlines to cope with.

12 steps to lead you up the path to successful joyful living

asian-woman-wearing-a-raincoat-outdoors-she-is-happy-picture-id905996586 12 steps to lead you up the path to successful joyful living

In our fast growing world stress is playing rampant. So much is happening i guess. People i feel are thematically geared towards success. Yet what we define as success is so personal in our own real world.

Everyone in the world is looking for success from his own personal perspective. Normally success is gauged from a material perspective. Money is an important gauge for the average man. Monetary success seems imperative. Someone with a fancy car, a beautiful home, and a super fantastic lifestyle would be termed as a successful person. Professional accomplishments seem to be a regular gauge too.

All these are very important ingredients of life but of utmost importance is our own personal scale, the real judging factor is our own '' feeling successful factor''

Being fulfilled, happy, safe, healthy and loved is vital. The less tangible emotional self at play is what truly counts and determines our success.

In today’s world of ''Conscious Living'' and ''Higher Awareness'' the true gauge of success is being in a state of inner balance and a semblance of being firmly grounded in the ''here and now'' of the material world.

Using Yoga as a Stress Reliever

young-mother-and-cute-little-daughter-meditating-in-lotus-pose-picture-id846700118 Using Yoga as a Stress Reliever

The exact counterpart of stress is of course relaxation. There are so many ways to reach a level of relaxation so that stress isn't a bothersome issue in our lives.

In the daily humdrum business of our existence the stress response occurs naturally. During ancient times stress existed in a miniscule fashion of course compared to today's situation. It also had very different reasons. People were hassled and stressed mainly due to life threatening situations by predators, etc. In today's day and age stress is triggered through everyday situations at work, at school, at home, in relationships, or there could be a competitive situation in a game or even living up to the Joneses could trigger stress.

THE STRESS RESPONSE VS THE RELAXATION RESPONSE

Stress is coloring everyone's lives now and In order to counter the pervasive stressful demands on our lives we need to slip into the relaxation mode through meditation and yoga. These according to me are the easiest and most commendable ways to counter stress. I personally believe very strongly in the mind body connect. I know that a relaxed mind leads to a healthy body.

Reducing Stress with Mindful Eating

Reducing Stress with Mindful Eating Reducing Stress with Mindful Eating

Our stress levels and our moods keep changing all the time. We feel that we can alter our moods by eating what we enjoy, mainly a craving for sweets settles in whenever we are upset or feeling stressed. You indulge in sweets and feel immediately satisfied, but this could also be followed by  a bout of irritability experienced due to a sugar crash following the binging.

Research in recent years tells us that just as eating certain foods have a certain impact on our moods , we need to monitor our food intake very carefully as this impacts our stress levels in a very major way.

Different Ways To Reduce Stress

breathe Different Ways To Reduce Stress

Since stress seems to come from so many avenues, so does stress relief. There are so many ways to handle it. Most people believe in a certain particular and personal favorite strategy for stress relief, but in my opinion the most efficient way would be to create an overall effective plan that includes many different ways of reducing stress instead of a particular favorite and suitable plan that would deal with stress from one's own individual angle.

CLEAR THINKING STRATEGY

Bringing clarity to the mind is by far the most important way to eliminate stress. When the thinking is clear in our heads it is only then that we can take the most sensible and beneficial decisions for ourselves. So keeping the mind uncluttered and clear is our best bet in life.

REVERSE THE STRESS RESPONSE

If you are familiar with the concept of reversing the stress response you start thinking more clearly and you can actually avoid the negative effects of chronic stress.

Mastering stress is an art that can be learnt. Being a master craftsman at this art is what is your real key to leading a beautiful life. Being a mastercraftsman at this one is your key to leading a beautiful life.

Ruminate to the positive!

Ruminate to the positive! Ruminate to the positive!

We as humans have a natural tendency to ruminate. We seem to excel in turning small issue's into large challenges and then we obsess over these.

WHAT IS RUMINATION?

This is actually about playing and replaying certain incidents and frustrating conversations in our heads over and over again. You could be going over the details of a recent or past conversation or could be revisiting stressful situation's without changing anything for the better.

It keeps us in a negative head space and robs us of our mental peace. There are no real mental payoffs happening here. Rumination can be harmful to the physical and emotional health. A survey conducted stated that 95 percent of individuals at some point or the other get into the rumination mode.

WHAT IS HOLIDAY (VACATION) STRESS?

There have been surveys which have given us statistics to say that holiday stress is carried by around 80 percent people.  People find it as stressful as asking for a raise.

POSITIVE STRESS

Sunny side up

Sunny Side Up Sunny Side Up

Self criticism could be ruining your peace of mind, learn to change tracks...

Why can’t I do anything right....is one question we ask ourselves so many times. Many of us have this self critical habit. We are too harsh on ourselves and this itself can lead to a huge stress. We need to stop this inner critic from sabotaging our happiness constantly.

Though many times we like to believe that this little voice inside is helpful as it keeps us motivated, but many times it works the other way round. It can be very damaging to our psyche. Not only is the inner critic creating emotional damage, it is also taking toll on one’s physical self. Emotional issues create stress. They suppress the immune system thereby leading to many physical problems.

The road less travelled by...

The Road Less Traveled By The Road Less Traveled By

Much of the stress is caused by keeping up with the Joneses; embrace your uniqueness to live life in joy.

Keeping a balance in life is actually the best way to beat stress. In our growing up years, we were constantly being told that we must live up to our parent’s expectations. We must be certain ‘kind’ of people, live up to the Joneses. We were never really taught to connect within, to see who we really are or who we really wanted to be.

Too much of anything is good for nothing

Too much of anything is good for nothing Too much of anything is good for nothing
Some of us are overly sensitive. Mostly people will talk about themselves by saying, ‘I’m a very sensitive person’. But it is always in context to their own feelings.  They like to ignore the fact that they could be inflicting pain on every other person around, yet they carry this ‘injured’ air around them.

Special traits

Highly sensitive people emote on a very different level.  They have some special traits which are very different from the average person. It could also be considered as a positive thing but it has its drawbacks.

Highly sensitive

This is actually a trait which brings both strengths and challenges. Sometimes one is just easily offended by people who mean no harm or they could even be trying to be nice to you. Sometimes the reaction to everyday stressors is also extreme. You may be more affected by negative stressors than most people are.

Wild imagination

You like to believe that you are being bullied by people who mean no harm and then tend to become over emotionally aggressive. You are more deeply affected by others.  Try to manage your reactions, make it your strength rather than a challenge.

Sibling Rivalry

Renee-Singh-Sibling-Rivalry-cover

Sibling rivalry wouldn’t exist if only parents knew how to handle children better.

A whole lot of us carry the burden of sibling rivalry.  No matter how old we get, we still suffer from the effects of ‘Mom and Dad always loved you more’. Much of our adult behaviour is coloured by this aspect which seems to colour our relationships with our siblings.

Coping with sibling rivalry could be very stressful, we all seem to face it somewhere and sometime in our lives. It actually needs to be dealt with in childhood so that it doesn’t surface in our relationships in adulthood.  If left undealt it creates major family disputes and unpleasantness in the closest of relationships leading to immense stress.

Accept your reality

You as an adult can cope with your issues if in your childhood you were taught how to manage your sibling relationships consciously. Relate to your own inner self. Try and be a good parent to your kids.

Today I will discuss how to handle sibling rivalry in children so that we consciously raise stress-free children who will further turn into well adjusted humans with comparatively low level of stress in a new zone of living.

Parenting consciously

This is most essential.  If parents are consciously monitoring their kids and making an effort in consistently bonding them in a mutually loving relationship, it creates great harmony.

Causes of conflict

Most of the time it is the competition for the favour of the parents who need to understand that comparing two kids is the worst possible way of creating a love culture. Never ever promote competition between children.  In this way they learn to resent each other.

Stress Buster: Harp On

renee-singh-stress-busters-harp-on
Music can come in handy in dealing with life from a positive perspective.

Whenever we listen to good music, it changes our zone. Music is one of the healthiest stress relief measures as it transports us into a different state of emotions according to its nuances. Music affects our minds and bodies in so many different ways and we need to realise and understand that it can be used as an effective stress management vehicle.

Physical relaxation

Music actually promotes relaxation of tense muscles enabling you to release tension from a stressful day or week. Relaxing your body while listening to music helps release tension in a fun way and puts one in a stress-free zone. Harp on

Music & meditation

For those who feel meditation is tough to get into, listening to music is an excellent way to relax and slowly get lured into the meditative state.

Music promotes positivity

Upbeat lives are happy lives. Even if you are not in a good mood you feel obliged to switch mental channels and feel better.

Return to the Joyful Living of Childhood

renee-singh-return-to-the-joyful-living-of-childhood
Now that we are stepping into the second month of the year,I feel all of us are more relaxed about our performance through the year. The initial euphoria of the new year year and it's newer resolutions is sort of settled into a routine. And yet at the back of our minds lurks this constant need to perform in a manner that leads us to a stress free life.

Happiness is the motivational goal which remains a constant obsession as it should.  Our main purpose on this planet is joy and inching towards it everyday is our essential need and desire.

Over the years as we allow stress to take a toll on our lives, we seem to have stopped living in our natural state which is joy. As children while we were growing up, joyful living was a natural part of our lives and we didn't have to consciously think about it. So now perhaps we should just switch on our childhood mode to reach that sense of emotional level of comfort and joy.

Go into your childhood and connect to the child within you. Think about how relaxed you were and how your thought patterns worked when you were living in those blissful times. Connect backwards in time and live those days .

Adult stress relief strategies seem so much simpler and more effective when we link them to our past happy experiences.

A Plan for Managing Stress

Renee-Singh-A-plan-for-managing-stress
People have a tendency to overlook their stress. Every few days I like to write about the benefits of an overall plan for managing stress as I do realise the importance of it from my personal counselling sessions with my clients.

From time to time we need to address the concept of stress management within us. It is not a one time strategy you apply, its an ongoing process you need to keep track of. It is important that you should have an overall plan for managing your stress and not allow your stress levels to rise high before you start handling them.

I feel the need to talk about the avaliable recourses for handling most of the stressful situation's . The smart thing is to combat our own stressful personal scenarios with the recourses available to us.

Most of the time we remain abreast our stressful situation when we keep ourselves on a higher level of awareness and conciousness. It is only when you deal with stress in less than healthy ways that you compound the negative impacts of stress on your health.

It can be that your responses to stress make the challenges you feel, more challenging .

Maintaining Balance

This is the most important aspect of stress management.  We need to create a lifestyle in sync with our values, a schedule to create health promoting habits. We need to understand how to deal with the negatives life metes us on the platter and move our perspective according to our challenges.

Yet many a time we realise that despite all our efforts stress is throwing us off balance.

We need to realise that life does not always turn the way we plan and "true balance " is not a continuous state. There could be many factors that throw things off the scheduled path.

Tips to Keep You on Your Path to Happiness

renee-singh-tips-to-keep-you-on-your-path-to-happiness
As we are well on our way into the New Year, our new hopes and aspirations seem firmly entrenched within our system and we seem to be on our way to a new beginning or at least a face lift to our old selves. Each year there are many resolves we make and yet slowly, they all melt down to the common potpourri of whatever is our normal daily life. No matter how hard we try to remain steadfast in our daily resolves, the moving Sands of time make it all wither away.

To keep oneself duly on the path ,one needs resilience and commitment.  This has to come from within. We constantly need to work on ourselves to keep us there on our committed path towards health and happiness. I am trying to facilitate my readers to stay on the path by using a few tips I have gathered over the years through intense research. Of course we all desire to wish it all away but we need to work our way to happiness.

Wishful Thinking

Most of us wish we could wave a magic wand and wish all our stressors away. What a blissful feeling to live in joy and harmony by just wishful thinking.

But practical reality tells us that no matter how much we wish our thoughts away, they don't go. We need to create practical ways and means of dealing with them. We need to know how to turn our thoughts around so that we can use them to our advantage

Relaxing Space

Our foremost thing is to have a relaxed physical space. Create it at home if possible. Your own spot where your level of comfort is the highest. When you are here your mind and body just step into a relaxed mode.

A Warm Bath

You could turn your bathroom to a spa like environment.  Visualise it like a spa scenario.  A hot bath always de stresses you. So create your own space.

Choose from Your Own Happy Habits

We all have our comfort zone's over the years that kept us going on the happiness path.Pick up on a few things which kept you the happiest and put them into your mental framework, use those now in your daily functioning.

Short Power Naps

Whenever fatigue sets in just take that 10 minutes nap that refreshes you and rejuvenate's your system. This is your "on your marks get set go" strategy.
