What is Wellness and Do We Really Need Healing?

PollyW7.24 How often do we pause or contemplate what wellness is; and do we really need healing?

Our modern-day world blasts heaps of chatter on TV, radio and personal electronic devices urging us to improve our health and wellness. We are encouraged to join a gym, take a supplement, drink a detox tea and even take a little pill. These messages imply we are not vibrant beings, healthy and whole.

How often do we pause and contemplate what wellness is; and do we really need healing?

If I have a catalyst for stress, it is my relationship with westernized medicine. I schedule my yearly exams every three years. My motto is if I feel great why seek medical advice. This plan is perfect, until I don’t feel great and need to seek care.

Extreme weather is a trigger for a condition I have. The Arizona heat takes me off the dirt trails and into our pool. I am living, but not full throttle. I know that when September returns, I will experience vibrancy again.

I have to ask myself, what part of me is calling out for love?

Cannabis and THC; 4 surprising benefits you might not know about

woman-adding-drop-of-cbd-oil-in-cup

With the increase of legal use of hemp along with other cannabis products, more and more consumers are now quite curious about this psychoactive plant. In 2018, it was removed from the classification of Schedule 1 drugs through the Farm Bill, and its legalization status has been growing ever since. There are two main components in marijuana; THC and CBD. CBD or cannabidiol is responsible for many benefits without producing a psychoactive effect, while THC provides benefits along with a ‘high’. Both of these have the ability to interact with the human body’s endocannabinoid system. THC offers quite a few benefits, out of which we will talk about the 4 most prominent ones.

When Therapy's Not Enough, Why Energy Work May Be The Answer

hands-close-up-reiki-master-and-massage-picture-id1089111900

Phillip walked into my office with his wife, his head down.

“Hi,” he said in a muffled voice.

“He’s shy,” his wife said apologetically.

“That’s okay,” I said. “It’s nice to meet you both. Have a seat.”

Phillip continued his reclusive demeanor, hunching down in the chair, his arm and legs crossed. He darted a glance in my direction and then hugged himself a little tighter. He was nervous and ashamed of being there. Another therapist. Please, not another one.

His wife patted him on the leg. “This is hard for him. He doesn’t like to talk about what happened. But it affects him every day. It’s affecting us. He’s not the same since he’s been back.”

I sat for a moment and just smiled at Phillip while his wife opened her purse and pulled out a Ziplock bag of medication. “This is everything they have him on. I don’t think any of it really helps.” I could hear the desperation in her voice.

“Okay,” I said. “Thanks for letting me know.”

This only made Phillip sink deeper into his chair.

Holistic Health and Wellness Tips for Seasonal Allergies

woman-sneezing These natural, simple, and safe practices may help you breathe easier

Summer is almost here, and with warmer weather and blooming plants, many people are suffering from the sniffling, sneezing, and congestion that comes from seasonal allergies.

When pollen from flowers, grass, and trees enters the body through the respiratory system, it can cause a reaction from the immune system. Our bodies respond to these unfamiliar particles by producing histamine. This is a naturally produced chemical that’s meant to protect the body from foreign invaders, but it can cause inflammation, coughing, sneezing, a runny nose, and more.

There is also a connection between allergens and liver function. The liver filters the blood. When the liver is overloaded and unable to completely detoxify the body, the result may be an immune system that overreacts to potential allergens, resulting in allergic symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing and congestion.

There are things you can do to avoid allergens that aggravate your symptoms. If you know grass irritates you, try to avoid direct contact with it. If the pollen count is high, try to stay indoors a bit more that day. Other prevention strategies include using air filters to remove pollen and dust from indoor air, changing and washing your clothes, and showering or bathing after spending time outdoors. Regularly cleaning and wiping down surfaces in your home can also help.

Holistic health practices can provide natural ways to help prevent and recover from seasonal allergies. Here are some to try:

How Can Cannabis Promote Mindfulness?

20210526-132542

Mindfulness, although an old age concept, has quite become mainstream lately. The University of Massachusetts was the first to introduce a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), ever since mindfulness has been a point of interest for many researchers. Over the years, many pieces of research and anecdotal studies have documented the benefits of mindfulness on our physical and mental health.

While practicing mindfulness techniques is relatively straightforward, it may not be as easy to incorporate as they may seem. It requires you to maintain awareness of the internal and external environment by keeping your thoughts still. For beginners, it may be pretty overwhelming to preserve the stability of feelings and emotions. Hence an external aid like cannabis can be quite beneficial. If you wish to explore how cannabis can help with your mindfulness practice, here is a brief of everything it does for you.

5 Ways Cannabis Helps Improve Your Health

hand-holding-

For ages, humans have been taking various substances to keep themselves healthy. What’s shocking is that many of these substances only give placebo effects. In addition to that, some of them can even give you adverse side effects. That said, one of the most beneficial substances to improve your health is cannabis.

When you hear cannabis, you would most likely think about the misconceptions surrounding this substance. Sadly, many people take these misconceptions to be true. Luckily, scientists have conducted many studies to prove these misconceptions wrong. Although many governments banned the use and production of this substance, they have since begun to reverse their bans. For example, medical cannabis has been legal in California since 1996.

How to Heal Your Body With Your Mind

woman-with-crystal-new-age-meditation-healing-picture-id870076498 Trust the intuitive knowledge and letting go of the story playing subconsciously

First let's use the example of addiction. It’s not a physical, organic thing. The addiction is a consequence of learned experience and repetitions of patterns. So is alcoholism in the genes?

The answer is no. In the
science of epigenetics it’s been found that it’s the perception of your environment that controls your genes. You’re not a victim of your genes because you’re the one who can change your environment—or, more importantly, change your perception of your environment—and thus change your response to it.

Let me tell you some fundamentals of how the mind works so this will be more clear to you. The cells of your body are merely following instructions given by the nervous system, by the brain. The nervous system does the interpretation. You can easily see this when you see two people reacting to the same stimulus with very different reactions, one positive and one negative. As your perception changes, you change the message that your nervous system communicates to the cells of your body. Your mind controls your biology. That’s what the placebo effect is about; the mind believes the pill will work and so it does.

Why Your Crystals and Stones May Not Be Working For You

bowl-of-crystal-gemstones-picture-id466834358 Why Your Crystals and Stones May Not Be Working For You

There is not a metaphysical store that is without a nice supply of stones for healing. They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, and they all profess to do to help people with different issues.

If you’re energetically sensitive, you probably have several different mala bracelets or other types of jewelry. This is in the hopes of it helping your energetic frequency to improve or to help your life in some way.

To the people who are more worldly grounded, this ritual seems like a hoax or something that makes no sense at all. I’m going to shed light on why this seems to be true.

I’m going to start by saying that I’m a lover of gemstones and I have several bracelets and earrings that I wear regularly. I find them really beautiful. I love them!

The first fact is that gemstones do have a particular frequency. This frequency is usually much higher than the average human being’s frequency. They also have unique properties that could help a person rebalance or raise their frequency and possibly experience a new reality.

Energy Healing Comes into the Light

hand-covering-flowers-at-the-garden-with-sunlight-picture-id492623216 Energy Healing Comes into the Light

When faced with traditional healing systems outside the Western tradition, science looks askance. That was true when traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture, and Ayurveda from India began to be known a generation ago. Popular acceptance doesn’t budge these prejudices, but if there’s a crossover with accepted Western concepts, the chances improve.

This is currently happening with energy healing, because it has a crossover with a proven phenomenon, the human body’s faint electrical field, known as the biofield.  This field is composed of the emission of electricity and biophotons, which are the light naturally emitted by all living things, and yet no one has scientifically established the use of the biofield. Into this gap steps energy healing, which looks to the body’s subtle energy field as something both crucial and vital for balanced health and wellbeing. At its most basic, the notion behind energy healing is that the biofield of a sick person is out of balance, and balance can be restored by directly treating the biofield.

Healing With Wachuma: Science and Tradition

Flowering Wachuma cacti at dusk. Healing With Wachuma: Science and Tradition

Wachuma is a plant cactus medicine with origins in the ancient Andean Mountains of Peru. The medicine is considered a masculine, Father plant teacher. The journey Wachuma inscribes onto our souls is one that brings us through to our darkest shadows so might we transcend our inner barriers and reach Heaven on Earth. Due to experiences of healing with Wachuma (but also religious subjugation), the Spanish renamed the medicine upon their arrival. They called it San Pedro, “Saint Peter” in English. In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus declares to Peter: “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Wachuma was named after Saint Peter because the Catholics viewed Wachuma as the key to the gates of Heaven. Pilgrims who undergo sacred journeys with Wachuma report dealing with emotional baggage unknown previous to their journeys. They return from these journeys feeling lighter and better able to transcend the weight of their lingering afflictions.

Nourish Your Whole Heart with These 7 Foods

almonds for the heart Nourish Your Whole Heart with These 7 Foods

An ancient Ayurvedic proverb states, “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Did you know that what you eat can go a long way toward promoting heart health? The Mayo Clinic recommends a heart-healthy diet that’s rich in fresh produce, fiber, and healthy fats (like olive oil and avocados). All of these things are considered beneficial from the perspective of Ayurveda as well, though Ayurvedic cooking tends to emphasize easy-to-digest (bioavailable), cooked veggies and meals over a raw approach to food. When considering heart health, Ayurveda also considers both facets of the heart: the physical heart and the emotional heart. 9 Ways to Stay Positive, Even When You're Sick!

sick-woman-laying-on-sofa-talking-on-telephone-picture-id107429753 9 Ways to Stay Positive, Even When You're Sick!

Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening.Treat it with care. ~ Buddha

Some common advice? When you wake up feeling oh so crapola, don’t fall back on old habits. Try some of these reminders to eat, treat and sleep your way back to good health.

When we are at our weakest, we must be our most vigilant. When we are ill it is so easy to lose our bearings. We push ourselves beyond the breaking point ignoring all the self-care habits that are critical toward living our most authentic lives.

Being ill drains us physically, mentally, and spiritually. It’s at these low points that we tend to fall backwards on much of the progress we are making as we move into our most authentic lives. We say to ourselves that our new habits can be left by the wayside while we try and mend, and then we don’t go back to them. Or we find that balancing healthy, self-nurturing behaviors with a compromised body is simply too overwhelming.

Is Your Home Making You Unwell?

homehealth Is Your Home Making You Unwell?
Our homes are supposed to be a safe haven where we can rest and renew to face an outside world of dangers and stress. However, unfortunately, there are hazards in our homes that you may not even see that can be making you feel unwell.

In the Bathroom

Bathrooms are generally small spaces that are filled with heat and humidity which can promote the growth of mould, human body soil and waste, and chemicals from personal care and cleaning products. Health hazards may lurk on nearly every surface and in the air.

The biggest health dangers come from:

  • Improper cleaning and hand washing that leaves bacteria like E.coli and viruses on surfaces.
  • Cross-contamination from shared use of towels and bathmats that can spread bacteria and fungi like Athlete's Foot.
  • The use of harsh cleaning chemicals, spray air fresheners, and limiting fresh air.
  • Poor water quality
