Nourishing Intentions

By Rebecca Katz Nourishing Intentions

A one-woman show of my paintings opened at Commonweal in Bolinas, California (August 14 - October 31, 2019) on a Saturday in mid-August. It’s called Daily Bread, from a quote I’ve always loved of Emerson’s: “The sky is the daily bread of the eyes.” As I wrote in the introduction to the show,

“The sky is the daily bread of my imagination—always there, ever-changing, never static, vast, wondrous, soul-nourishing, full of mystery and awe.”

“The sky is a visual way to think about life—and to keep perspective on our own experience. It’s so much greater than the sum of its myriad parts, overarching everything, seductive with the constant movement of the atmosphere, enchanting as it keeps us engaged in the present moment.”

Having my own show, at Commonweal, where I had cooked for the Cancer Help Program 20 years ago, was an astounding experience where, in the healing space of Commonweal, my paintings took on a magical life of their own.

I’d never seen these 13 new paintings together before, much less in the beautiful 1,500 square-foot gallery at Commonweal. I couldn’t truly know how they would look and feel until I hung the show in the gallery the Monday before, and until the people were there to interact with them—people who are really special in my life, along with memories of people who have passed.

Plant the Seeds of Your Intention on the New Moon

crescent-moon-on-twilight-sky-picture-id154948874 Plant the Seeds of Your Intention on the New Moon

As we approach the new moon this week it’s an auspicious time to focus on setting new intentions. Ancient farmers, who followed the cycles of the moon, traditionally planted seeds in the earth during the new moon. The lunar gravity, which is strongest at the new moon, pulls water up through the soil which helps seeds swell with moisture and aids them in bursting open to germinate new life.

For us, when the moon is at its darkest and beginning a new cycle, its energy encourages us to align ourselves with new growth as well. It’s a time to go inward and contemplate what we will manifest in our lives. While the full moon is often celebrated as a time to circle and make use of its power, it is all about release and letting go of that which no longer serves us, while the new moon helps us begin something new and invites to co-create with fresh energy.

Aptly, in the 4-card Universal reading this week, the first card is Skuld, the Norse Goddess of the Future. Her name means “she who is becoming”. She is the youngest of the three Norns, or Fates, who weave each person’s destiny into the tapestry of time. She shapes the future. She comes to show us that we have a small moment in time this week where we get a glimpse into our future, to see what is possible for us. The Universe is sending signals, signs, and omens that remind us that all things are possible. These flashes of insight can become potent moments of inspiration for us.

How To Manifest The Change That You Really Want

magic-moment-picture-id531473774 How To Manifest The Change That You Really Want

In my weekly Oracle Card reading, in which I explain some of the really dynamic myths and messages from the Goddess, I also highlight a common theme that we are all experiencing. We are all in a rebirth period right now. This is an amazing time right now of change and evolution. Yet, as we pass through the different stages of change, there can often be a time of contraction where the change gets uncomfortable.

When we endeavor to make changes we have the excitement and energy of new intentions driving us. Yet, when we bump up against detours and challenges, and the intentions that we set to manifest do not come to fruition exactly as we thought they would, it can be disheartening.

Have you ever set an intention to manifest something, then felt discouraged when it didn’t show up the way you’d hoped?

Living a Life of Juicy Intentions

Last week I was seeking to connect to my life with greater intention. I also wanted to clean up the food I put in my body. After a little research I decided to focus on a three-day juice cleanse. A local market offered organic fresh pressed juice cleanses. It looked pretty easy. The bottles were labeled. The directions were included. All I had to do is drink the jewel colored juices.

I have eaten a plant based diet most of my life. With this being said, pretzels and tortilla chips are part of my diet. There is room for improvement.

I was excited to start! The idea of bright fruits and vegetables infusing my body with different colors from the sun, made me smile. Soon I would be loving my body and mind with beautiful hues of light. The juice reminded me of miracles held in bottles. This is the type of medicine I believe in.

Power-up Your Intentions

freedom-and-stress-free-concept-picture-id675754156 HOW TO TAP INTO THE PROFOUND POWER OF THE UNIVERSE

What would it be like if you didn’t measure the success of your life just by what you get and don’t get, but gave equal or greater priority to how aligned you are with your greatest values?

So many of us have been taught to measure our success through the accomplishment of goals. As a result, we get stuck on a goal-driven roller-coaster, feeling the highs when we accomplish something and the lows and frustrations when things don’t go as we plan.

The problem is that goals don’t fulfill you on an ongoing basis; they either lead to more and more goals or crumble apart, leaving you to feel like you failed. While goals give you excitement and highs and lows, intentions provide you with enduring self-respect, purpose, and peace of mind.

Setting intentions is very different than goal making because it’s not focused on arriving at a specific future outcome. When we set an intention it’s really to experience something and that may take time to fully manifest. It’s really a process that is initiated by being conscious and deliberate on how you are being in the present moment. Your attention is on the “now.”

The now is where ALL your power is. It is the place where you plant the seed of intention for your dreams. You set an intention and begin the doing, thinking and being in the now.
