A World Without Marketing

IMG_0570-1200x900 A World Without Marketing

“Imagine no possessions.
I wonder if you can…”
—John Lennon

Marketing drives our world today. Everything from political candidates to clothing to cars and cell phones is presented to us through a filter of manipulative images and languaging. True needs (supporting life) have been replaced with artificial needs (unnecessary, even detrimental, to our lives). What would the world be like without marketing? Some economists say it would fall apart, no longer driven by false monetary incentives. I don’t believe it.

Be at Peace with the Pain of Others

sunrise-over-the-clouds-picture-id595343542 Be at Peace with the Pain of Others

Can you stay open to the pain of others?

The Practice:
Be at peace with the pain of others.

Why?

Humans are an empathic, compassionate, and loving species, so it is natural to feel sad, worried, or fiery about the troubles and pain of other people. (And about those of cats and dogs and other animals, but I’ll focus on human beings here.)

Long ago, the Buddha spoke of the “first dart” of unavoidable physical pain. Given our hardwired nature as social beings, when those we care about are threatened or suffer, there is another kind of first dart: unavoidable emotional pain.

For example, if you heard about people who go to bed hungry – as a billion of us do each night – of course your heart would be moved. I’m usually a pretty calm guy, but when I visited Haiti, I was in a cold rage at the appalling conditions in which most people there lived. On a lesser scale but still real, a friend’s son has just started college and is calling home to tell his mom how lonely and miserable he feels; of course she’s worried and upset.

Let’s Show the World a Different Way

special-O-1 Let’s Show the World a Different Way

“Isn’t it amazing that we are all made in God’s image, and yet there is so much diversity among his people?”  — Desmond Tutu

Sometimes you are lucky enough to take a trip at just the right moment…

I have been in Abu Dhabi this week for the Special Olympics World Games and, everywhere I’ve looked, I have seen the good of humanity.

Athletes from all over the world have traveled here with coaches, parents and volunteers. They have gathered together because they believe in the power of sports, the power of inclusion and the potential to move humanity forward.

Within this community, I find myself enveloped in goodness. I find myself surrounded by people who are giving themselves to others and who speak about unity, tolerance, respect and love. Those are the values that matter to them. These are the values that matter to me.

The Special Olympics World Games have been soul-lifting for me because I’ve met people of different nationalities and faiths who are committed to building a more inclusive world together. These are people who believe in a world where we lift each other up, not tear each other down. These are people who believe in a world of positivity and possibility. These are people who believe in a world where discrimination does not exist, and where the word disability is replaced with determination.

All of this has brought me hope this week as I have absorbed the tragic news out of New Zealand. It’s also brought me hope as I’ve digested the stunning story of wealth, corruption and deceit behind the college cheating scandal in the United States.

Women's Voices: Speaking Truth to Power

IMG_0667-1200x900

“We are a land of many colors,
and we are singing,
singing, for our lives.”
—Holly Near

In last fall’s elections, the U.S. Congress saw a refreshing new influx of those who have been left out of the legislative process far too long—specifically, women and people of color. African-American, Native-American, Latina, and Muslim women were elected from various states across the country. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York is one of them. Since her surprise unseating of the incumbent there, she has been relentlessly criticized by nervous politicians from both parties for her outspoken and uncensored comments about the President and all those in power. Many of those criticisms show just how much public opinion panders to “acceptable” behavior for political candidates, and women in particular.

Discover Stillness

stillness Discover Stillness

Wherever you discover stillness enjoy it and let it feed you.

What doesn't change?

The Practice:
Discover stillness.

Why?

Things keep changing. The clock ticks, the day unfolds, trees grow, leaves turn brown, hair turns gray, children grow up and leave home, attention skitters from this to that, the cookie is delicious but then it’s all gone, you’re mad about something for awhile and then get over it, consciousness streams on and on and on.

Many changes are certainly good. Most people are glad to put middle school behind them. I’m still happy about shifting thirty years ago from single to married. Painkillers, flush toilets, and the internet seem like pretty good ideas. It’s lovely to watch grass waving in the wind or a river passing. Fundamentally, if there were no change, nothing could happen, reality would be frozen forever. I once asked my friend Tom what he thought God was and he said “possibility.”

Use Oracle Cards to Empower Yourself

oraclecardmaya Use Oracle Cards to Empower Yourself

Let’s talk about how we co-create reality in partnership with the Universe and the most important step of manifestation- surrendering the results and the attachment to form.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about life (as I do in the early months of every year). I find winter a season of dreaming and taking inventory, sometimes going deep into the darker parts of my life, the womb, to see what I might birth consciously into the world. I wonder in awe some days about how I got here doing what I do and how different it was from what I was convinced I wanted. If you look at your life and see how far you’ve come, are you living the life you wanted on the outside, and/or are you loving life from the inside?

This week the goddess that stood out for me is the multi-cultural goddess of illusion- the goddess Maya. I think my favorite version of her, (and there are many-Hindu, Greco-Roman, Tibetan etc.) is the Scandinavian – where she represents the May maiden- the virgin goddess with the pregnant womb of chaos that preceded the making of the world, the beginning called Ginnungagap. She, like the Hindu Maya we might be more familiar with, is associated with the illusion of appearances. And so when we consider that we manifest from essence to form, often we get confused by this. We often want something because of what we think that the thing, experience, person will do for us, or how it will make us feel, or what we hope will happen when we arrive at the destination. For example, some think that once they fall for the One and then everything will be alright.

How can we consciously stand up to social injustice?

socialinjustice How can we consciously stand up to social injustice?

The wisdom of the game is that you can protest against who you are protesting the minute you can genuinely love them as much as you love yourself.

You may not love their acts, but you better love who’s behind it, and you better see it as another manifestation, because otherwise you’re getting caught up in with ‘them’ in the ‘them-ness.’ As a result, you are getting stuck and then you’ll end up feeling unfulfilled because you’re feeling separate, you’re separating yourself.

The whole act is meant to build upon a feeling of unity that comes from breaking through the separateness.

4 Steps to Take Action On Your Goals

goals
“It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well have not lived at all.” – J.K. Rowling.”

Did you know that 90 % of all New Year’s resolutions never get fulfilled? So if you’re ever found yourself on December 31st, wondering what happened to all of the big goals you set for yourself back on the previous New Year’s Eve, and why you’re not
taking action on your goals, you’re certainly not alone.

So let’s look at what separates the 10 percent who DO achieve their goals from the vast majority who don’t?

The answer has everything to do with ACTION.

The people who achieve great success in life are the ones who are willing to take consistent action toward realizing their dreams.

They’re the ones who jump out of their seat to get the ball rolling — on the new project at work, the new skill they want to learn, or the promotion they want to get.

You Were Born Shining!

IMG_4064-1200x900

Claim your own life. Your soul knows what it wants from this lifetime. So does your heart. Your life plan is imprinted in every cell of your physical form. If you pause quietly for a moment or two, you can hear your inner wisdom speaking. It will guide you steadfastly to the destiny that awaits you.

Don’t think about it; just listen. Be silent and receive the download of God’s plan for you. You were born with it; it’s in your genes. You breathe it in and out every moment of your day. The key is to stop distracting yourself with the cacophony of other voices all around you, and pay attention to your own voice within. No one else knows you as well as you. When you align with the inner truth of your being, that truth lives through you into the world. You begin to sparkle and shine with authenticity.

Then you no longer need try to copy someone else’s lifestyle or follow the 10 quick steps to success in all those self-help books and articles. Success, in truth, is just being you. That’s why you’re here and why there is no one else exactly like you on Earth. Your soul knows this. You have a sacred responsibility to be your own true self, not a half-hearted imitation of someone else’s idea of what it means to be human.

What Does This New Year Hold For You?

selfcare What Does This New Year Hold For You?

"I Wish" is enough of a statement. As we step into a New Year, we always have mixed feelings."I want this" "I wish I could have this" "My this year's resolutions" "My this year's activities "

Each one of us comes up with our own Wish List and our own unique ideas on what the New Year holds for us. Which direction do we choose, or do we choose at all. In today's world I feel every thinking individual does like to believe that he is giving himself a chance for the better, in every which way.

Each one of us is geared towards getting the maximum from their own lives in terms of happiness and success.

According to me, I will give my readers an insight from my own personal perspective on which direction they should take, and how to go about achieving a happy and stress free life.

Crush the Box

outsidethebox Crush the Box

Learning to live outside the box is essential to living your authentic life. This is difficult because we often have perceptions of reality imposed by society. Our western model of success (a house, kids, picket fence, two cars, etc..), may not bring the fulfillment and happiness you’re looking for. Our high-tech, low-touch society doesn’t promote your unique brilliance. But there is something greater and unique within you, waiting to get out of the box.

Have you ever been told that you weren’t good enough? Have you ever felt that your ideas were unimportant? This happens all the time. Belief in judgement and unrealistic expectations limit your potential. Your belief of these lies needs to be transformed into realization of your full potential. Your beautiful, unique expression lives outside the box.

Acquire Goodwill

Source: free photo/Pixabay Acquire Goodwill

Ill will creates negative qualities whereas good will creates positive qualities

Do people ever make you mad?

The Practice:
Acquire goodwill.

Why?

As the most social and loving species on the planet, we have the wonderful ability and inclination to connect with others, be empathic, cooperate, care, and love. On the other hand, we also have the capacity and inclination to be fearfully aggressive toward any individual or group we regard as "them." (In my book - Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love and Wisdom - I develop this idea further, including how to stimulate and strengthen the neural circuits of self-control, empathy, and compassion.)

Who I Am Today is the Possibility of Magic. Who are You?

lonehiker Who I Am Today is the Possibility of Magic. Who are You?

The ideas I embrace about who I am, and what I believe myself to be, mold a paradigm, a way of thinking that determines what is and is not possible for me as I create and live my daily life.

When I woke up for life today, I found myself asking the question, who did I really believe myself to be? Maybe this was because it was my birthday, and I was curious to know who I had grow up to be in these past thirty three years of life. Upon further reflection I observed is that, since the day of my birth, I had been told by others who I was. Therefore, since the day of my birth I realized that others have determined what is and is not possible for me and my life. But on this birthday morning, awakening into a newfound sense of self-awareness, I began crafting a story of possibility, one that would shatter inherited paradigms and forever change what I believed possible.

23 Questions to Celebrate Your Year & Set New Year Goals for 2019

newyear 23 Questions to Celebrate Your Year & Set New Year Goals for 2019

As you set your new year goals for 2019, it’s a good idea to take stock of the progress you’ve made toward your goals this year. For many people, this review is unpleasant and can even lead to a downward spiral.

If you didn’t achieve all of the goals you set at the beginning of the year, you may feel like you have failed. Our self-esteem can take a hit, we can become disheartened and discouraged, and our motivation drops. Some people actually become depressed.

If this sounds familiar, it’s time to reframe how you look at success. Zeroing in on accomplishments that didn’t happen puts your focus on what you lack, rather than on what you have (the things you did experience and accomplish). This subtle mental trap leads to a host of negative consequences, which usually leads to attracting more lack.

FULL MOON REPORT: December 22nd Full Cold Moon 10:48 AM in the Sign of Cancer

wintermoon FULL MOON REPORT: December 22nd Full Cold Moon 10:48 AM in the Sign of Cancer

I always love the energy of the full moon – well … almost always. Sometime it gets a bit intense, which is why I ask people that tune into moon energy to let me know, in advance …  what to be mindful of. I’m one of those types of people that would rather have awareness ahead of time … than not …  so … Here is some great info for this month’s FULL MOON by Melissa Corter – Enjoy – SDJ ♥

This Cancer Full Moon can be considered the Full Moon of family and blessings of prosperity! This moon stirs up feelings of home, deeply fulfilling connections and relationships, and a loving connection to self. The element of Cancer is responsible for igniting the desire to give and receive. Anyone who chooses to tap in to the nurturing aspect of their being will see things manifest in beautiful ways; intuitively they will channel the soul of giving. The wisdom of this Moon is in knowing how and when to give, but more importantly, the energy behind the intention of giving.

Put Your Psychic Ability To Work in 2019

asian-woman-looking-outside-the-window-picture-id607901632 Put Your Psychic Ability To Work in 2019

Did you know that using your psychic ability is the same as using any muscle in your body? But, most importantly … you have to use it to strengthen it. In this Soul Inspirations, I am giving you an exercise, which I often use in my workshops. It can be very helpful and fun to do. So here goes …

Pretend you’re already psychically aware. Then choose someone (maybe a spouse, family member or friend) that you feel naturally drawn to. Now tell this person any information you’re receiving, even if you feel you’re making it up.

Try not to think too much or let your conscious mind interfere, so just say what you feel. When you’re feeling free, there’s no pressure to be right and above all, just have fun doing it!

In this case, your imagination and psychic ability work hand in hand to create a natural flow of information. It’s not uncommon for the spirit of a loved one to slip into your mind when you’re not pressured to perform or to be accurate.
