What Would Your Soul Do?

jholland7.25

Do you ever feel out of alignment and confused and then you start hearing a loud voice in your head saying: “What am I doing?” “I can’t keep living like this” or “Something’s got to change”?  When you’re asking these questions, it’s usually a big clue that your soul is trying to get your attention.

I call these moments: Soul Cry Outs. Your soul is yelling out to you: “Hey! I’m here! I can help!” That’s what’s great about your inner guidance. It sends up signals to both your psychic and physical senses.

When you need a wake-up call, your soul stops at nothing to get it to you. You may even meet a stranger who will somehow give you the message. Your inner guidance can bring up a thought, an action, or even manifest a situation in your outside life to get you to stop and think about what’s happening in front of you.

It’s easy to get caught up in our day-to-day routine and we have a tendency to focus only on our physical world and the issues in front of us - and forget about our spiritual self and its needs.  We pull away from the Source that infuses our soul, which only exacerbates our feelings of being tired, drained or confused. But now more than ever it’s important to force ourselves to check in and reconnect with our soul for its power, wisdom and guidance.

Losing Someone You Love

IMG_3598-1200x900

“Yesterday a child came out to wander…”
—Joni Mitchell, “Circle Game”

Last month, a friend I’ve known most of my life passed away after a recurrence of cancer. It was not entirely unexpected, but it happened suddenly and was deeply shocking. I thought she would always be there—an unspoken assumption many of us probably have about close friends or family. We never imagine that they won’t be in our lives. Yet she was gone. And even the most profound spiritual beliefs about life after death cannot entirely prevent the initial heart pain of losing someone you love.

How to Access Your Soul’s Wisdom

meditating-picture

In the last Soul Inspirations article, I mentioned how you can find any answers you’re seeking by looking within to your soul. This week, I want to give you a meditation you can try to help you access this inner-wisdom anytime:

Find a safe, quiet and comfortable spot where you can sit with your feet planted firmly on the floor. Close your eyes and relax. Take a few deep breaths through your nose, exhaling slowly out of your mouth.

Now, bring your awareness to the bottom of your feet. Let your breath assist you in transferring this relaxing energy up through the bottom of your feet. Slowly work your way up to your calves, your thighs, your abdomen and your chest, directing this energy into these areas.

What Is God?

IMG_2668-1200x900

Who or what is God? A question without an answer really—or with an infinite number of answers. For God is not really a concept that can be explained or a puzzle that can be solved. God is an experience, one that is as unique as every individual on this planet or every soul in the universe. And it cannot be contained within any description or answered question. Perhaps metaphor comes closest to expressing what God is.  And we each have our own inner metaphors for the experience of the Divine.

For me, God is the seed at the center of all creation as well as the flower that arises from the seed. It encompasses creation itself. God’s essence is gender-free, formless. God is birth and death, inhalation and exhalation, shakti and shiva, yin and yang. God is the eternal harmony in which there are no false notes, the truth within which there are no opposites, the Oneness that holds everything. God is an endless ocean of love, a light that shines from each individual soul and from the collective Soul of the cosmos. There is nothing I can imagine that is not God, nothing I can experience that isn’t God.

Your Soul Knows Best

IMG_1964-1200x900

Sometimes it seems as if life is random, crazy, a mistake of cosmic proportions. It isn’t. There is intent and purpose woven into the fabric of the universe. And your soul knows this. Your soul chose this lifetime for its own evolution, for humanity’s evolution. We humans are on a collective journey through diverse Earth experiences to integrate polarities and find our way back to balance, peace, and harmony. The soul is our guide.

The challenge for the soul-as-human is to reach peaceful harmony within a physical form with its complex emotions, thoughts, and anatomical circuitry. At times it can seem overwhelming. However, if you remind yourself that your soul chose the scenarios and experiences of your lifetime for its own growth and expansion, then perhaps you can come to acceptance and even gratitude. It’s not necessarily something that will make sense to the mind, but your heart naturally allows life to flow through it. If you remain centered in your heart, life will feel more whole and less fragmented.

Masks

IMG_E2887-1200x900

This blog article is not about the pros and cons of mask-wearing. Instead, I’d like to suggest a possible deeper meaning for this whole phenomenon. All around the world, people are wearing masks, for mutual protection and individual/collective health. When I pass someone on the street here in Massachusetts in winter, I see eyes and a mask—and lots of clothing. COVID has made us almost unrecognizable, one from the other. Sometimes it seems eerie or surreal—a science fiction scenario. Yet people often wave or gesture in a friendly way as they go by, bridging the social distance between us. In our anonymity, we are still human. And maybe, ultimately, that may be the gift of COVID: to show us in an unforgettable ongoing visual that we are really all the same. The masks hide our differences, and our common humanity is clearly visible in our eyes.

You DO Matter!

youdomatter

What a miracle you truly are!

The Source that makes all living things in the Universe is also the same Source that’s inside of you. This Divine Source interacts and is connected with the whole of you, which means your body, mind and soul.

To honor your divinity, to live a spiritual and physical life of happiness, serenity, abundant health, and to experience a loving and successful relationship, it’s important to understand and get to know your true essence—your soul. You must begin to reach inward to meet your soul, to move through all the layers of what’s been built up inside and around you over the years.

The Last Attachment

IMG_2330-1200x900

In the course of our lives, human beings form attachments to events, people, memories, feelings, beliefs, experiences, physical objects, and much more. If we choose at some point to follow a spiritual path, we learn, sometimes quite painfully, to see the impermanence of everything and to let go of many of those attachments. One of our strongest attachments is to the personality we have constructed over the years and the stories we tell ourselves about our lives. Lives that are in reality ephemeral and transitory—a truth never more poignantly visible than in the past few months as humanity confronts death on a daily basis because of the coronavirus. We are taking a collective crash course in letting go—of everything.

Why Nothing That Happens is Truly Bad

backlight-view-through-apple-tree-summer-meadow-in-bavaria-germany-picture-id182027571 Why Nothing That Happens is Truly Bad

You must know that as a soul, as a sacred being, as a Divine entity, you are placing yourself in certain circumstances, situations, and conditions in every given moment of your life for a particular purpose and reason.

It’s also important to understand that pain (both physical and emotional) can, in fact, be bidden. It actually can be wanted. It’s hard to believe, I know, but it is, in fact, true that it can be welcomed for any one of a number of reasons.

Yet if the Mind thinks that a particular pain is “unwanted,” it will not abide it. It will violently or strenuously fight against it, and that’s precisely what creates the experience of struggle and suffering in one’s life.

Underneath this truth lies a deeper one: Nothing that ever happens is “bad” for you.  If it were bad for you, it wouldn’t be happening. Life is incapable of producing an event or condition that does not carry you to the next place in your evolution or that is not designed for your next expression of Divinity. Since the expression of Divinity is the reason you are here, you can be sure that everything is placed before you to serve this Divine purpose; in other words, to serve your purpose because your purpose is the Divine purpose.

Got Soul?

soulfullife Got Soul?

Through the ages, scholars as well as all religious and spiritual traditions have contemplated the definition, significance, and nature of the soul. Some people believe that soul simply suggests another word for spirit, and that they’re really one of the same, or that it implies a religious or even a spiritual quality.

You may often hear the word soul used in today’s modern culture referring to a sense of pride in areas such as religion, social customs, food, music, or even dance. I have even heard the word used when expressing a deep-felt emotion: “He put all his heart and soul into that performance.”

I’ve been amazed by the number of definitions, meanings, and references there are for one single word, which itself can mean so many different things to so many different people.

Soul is consciousness. It is my belief that the soul is the true essence of a person. When you look into a mirror and see your reflection, you notice your body, your hair, your eyes, your smile, or even your frown! The reflection looking back at you, the image you see is just your external shell; it’s not who you really are.

How Travelling connects you with your soul

soultravel How Travelling connects you with your soul

The first thing that comes to your mind when someone talks about ‘holidays’, is traveling. People have different hobbies and passions. Some people like to relax at home and play video games, some like to listen to music to relax and others like to take a walk in the park. And then there are some people who live their lives out of a suitcase. These people have to do so because of work related commitments and some do so because of personal love for traveling.

Not everyone loves to travel but people who have a genuine love for traveling might not always need a reason or even a companion to set their foot out of their home. They find comfort in being uncomfortable and might plan an impromptu trip. Apart from physical and mental benefits, traveling helps you to connect with your soul. The health of the soul is linked with mental strength. To be able to maintain it, you must involve yourself in creative and constructive activities. It requires you to maintain a healthy lifestyle where you are happy, social, and take efforts to make it constructive. The health of your soul is the key to your mental health, and it is directly linked with your life’s endurance.

Reconnecting With Your Soul's Desires

lonely-rock-sculpture-at-the-shape-of-heart-preveli-crete-greece-picture-id695940520 Reconnecting With Your Soul's Desires

I hope you had a wonderful Fourth of July weekend. I have been in Greece for the past week or so. Although I have done a lot of traveling this year, my trips, although amazing, have been full of early morning wake-up calls and jam-packed itineraries. This trip was a true vacation, especially the last five days in Mykonos. I got up on my own accord and my biggest decision of the day was which beach club to explore. I enjoyed a wonderful beach read and basically flowed into each moment, one moment at a time.

Although most people like to stay connected when they travel, I reveled in the delight of disconnection.

Generally identifying myself as a person who loves structure and thrives on my ability to multi-task and accomplish so much in a day, I was shocked at how good I was at doing nothing! And I enjoyed it! Yet somewhere in between my third beach club and seventh Greek salad (yes, I was enjoying a feta-thon!), a very cool thing happened. As my life got quieter, I was able to hear a voice I hadn’t connected with in a while. I was able to hear the whisperings of my soul.

Do You Know How Powerful You Really Are?

lonely-man-sitting-in-a-wooden-dock-pier-in-sea-beach-with-twilight-picture-id960631446 Do You Know How Powerful You Really Are?

I wonder if we all really know just how powerful we really are? The same energy that makes up the heavens, the universe, and every living thing is also the same energy that is part of our soul. As a soul - we are all connected.

I’ve noticed lately, there are three popular words I’m seeing everywhere, namely: IntuitionEmpathic, and Soul.  These are hot topics and I feel more and more people are seeking wisdom inwards instead of finding the answers in the outside material world. Let me ask you this simple, yet powerful question: "Do you understand the workings of your own soul?"

I’d like to show you how to use and trust your soul’s sense of intuition and appreciate that the power and energy of love is vital to your soul’s well being.

How can we hold both the good and the bad within us?

How can we hold both the good and the bad within us? How can we hold both the good and the bad within us?

Question: “How can a soul know another soul, and can an ego know a soul?”

A soul can know a soul. An ego cannot know a soul. But souls like Maharaji, for example, draw out your soul, and then you see him. Otherwise, you see an old man without a blanket. Am I saying it right? I have discovered this when I visit sick or dying people.

When I used to do it like, “I’m a kind man who’s visiting sick people, so therefore, you must be a sick person,” I was caught in my role, and therefore, all I did was keep them caught in their roles. When I stood outside the bedroom door, and felt myself to be a soul, and then I went into the room, I was able to see it clearly. I went in and massaged the sick man’s feet. And there we were as soul friends. He didn’t find my mind reinforcing his model of himself, so I thought, “Hey, you can fluff a pillow or put a blanket over someone and you are helping people.” But Krishna in the  Bhagavad Gita is, “Do what you do, but put the flowers at my feet.” It’s doing God’s work, doing these things. So when I went to see that fellow, characterizing him as a spiritual person, I felt I was doing God’s work. Maybe that’s just psychotic.

How Real Is the Soul?

How Real Is the Soul? How Real Is the Soul?

Depending on which polls you consult, more than half of Americans and up to 67% believe that a person's soul goes to heaven or hell after death. This belief seems unusually strong considering that more and more Americans no longer identify with a fixed religion. "I'm not religious, but I’m spiritual" has become a common sentiment, and yet the idea of the soul continues to hold its place. One might even say it outstrips God as a matter of belief.

Look at how deeply embedded the word "soul" is in our culture, from soul music to soul searching. Once a word takes old, so does the concept it represents. To a pure rationalist, there's no reason to say that the gospels sung in African American churches are more soulful than a Beethoven symphony. When someone searches his soul, the psychological reality is that he is usually just consulting his conscience or weighing issues of right and wrong that came from childhood upbringing.

A new perspective on motherhood…

A new perspective on motherhood… A new perspective on motherhood…

I have been thinking about my mother and how Maharaji gave me a present.

You see, I was a Freudian, and that’s a bad place to be in relation to mothers. Sometime after I had been with Maharaji, I was having a darshan and he said something to me: “Your mother is a very high being.” Now my mother had died. So I perceived my mother in a new way. I had seen her as a Jewish middle-class woman filling the role of mother with all her personality things. But that person is all gone. So he said that about her, and I asked the translator to clarify whether he meant to say “is” or “was.” So, the translator went back over, and Maharaji got angry and said, “Is!… Is!”

What is the difference between knowing and being?

What is the difference between knowing and being? What is the difference between knowing and being?

When you walk down the street you see other beings who are doing things, who are thinking things, who are wearing things, who are older or younger, who have personal lives. You see all the individual differences, but you also see them as packaging which holds that being.

This is a 1931 body and it’s decaying at a certain rate. It’s inevitable. I mean, I may prolong it or slow it down, but it’s inevitable. The personality of this being has a lot of residual little neuroses hanging around in it. It’s also charming, it’s delightful, it’s warm, it’s intelligent, it’s a personality, and those are my vehicles for being here on Earth.

It’s like a space suit, when you see those guys on the moon, and they’re encased in these suits. Those suits allow them to be in that particular element, and so we are in an element which requires that we be sheathed in a body and a personality.

Notice what I’m doing. I’m suggesting that we are not an identity with our personalities or our bodies, we are something more than that, and the predicament we face in recognizing this part of ourselves is that it isn’t ‘see-able’ with our eyes, isn’t ‘tasteable’ with our tongues… isn’t recognizable by any of our external senses.

So do we take this whole part of ourselves and assume it isn’t real?

Your Soul's Awareness

IMG_3075-1200x900
Live as your soul, and trust in God. Live as God, and trust in your soul. One and the same. Your soul is God here on Earth within a physical form. God is in every physical form on the planet—every human being, every animal, every butterfly, every tree, every stone, every tiny grain of sand. There is absolutely nothing that is not Source energy. When we come to this greater awareness, we can be free of separation on every level. Separation from God, separation from others, and separation within ourselves. My mind, body, emotions, and spirit are all one. I am one with all beings everywhere.
