When you go on an outing, take responsibility and make sure to take out what you bring with you. Garbage not only makes our beaches ugly, it poses a threat to the animals and the environment.
Google images of "turtle straw" or "turtle plastic" or even "marine life pollution" to see some of the effects of our lack of responsibility.
It just takes a little more preparation to help save the environment. Bring a garbage bag with you. Think about the wind...empty cans, plastic bottles and wrappers are easily blown away.
If on a boat, don't set your things on the edge where they can get knocked into the water. Empty cans will blow out of cup holders (you can even fill them with the water until you are docked where you can empty it back into the ocean/lake and drop it in the recycle bin).
Think about how you will weigh items down if it is windy. Instead of plastic wrap or baggies, pack your food in reusable plastic containers. I will use takeaway containers and then rinse them and throw them in the recycle bins after my picnic.
Ditch the straws! Bring reusable water bottles. And make sure to look around after you pack up to make sure you haven't left anything but footprints.
