You Only Get One Life – Start Taking Action!

One of my favorite pastimes is to sit looking out at the ocean. I love the sound of the waves as they reach the shore.

I’ve observed that some of the waves come crashing in with an abundance of energy and force behind them. While others don’t make much of a fuss as they barely reach the shore. The waves parallel the differences in the way we live life.

There are some people who give life all they’ve got. They use the energy they embody and the life force that walks with them to make an impact in life…to make a difference. They seize openings, create new circumstances and partner with their fear. Everyday they are cognizant of the gift they’ve been given. They don’t allow themselves to be a victim, they don’t complain and they don’t partake in pessimism. Their vocabulary doesn’t contain the words “I can’t,” and they see possibilities instead of limitations.

They don’t wait around for things to change; they change them. They don’t hope for opportunities; they create them.

Like the waves that come crashing in they make a huge splash, cover as much ground as they can and alter everything they are able to touch. They leave things wet as a reminder of their presence when their time is up.

Then there are others who barely scratch the surface of life. They don’t want to make a fuss and by not making a fuss, they don’t fully live. Everything and everyone is to blame for their circumstances. They live by the words “if only.” If only things were different. If only I had more ______________. If only someone could help me or show me. If only…

For them the shore isn’t close enough, the water isn’t warm enough, the other waves didn’t help push them enough, the rocks are too scary and they hate being wet.

You only get one life. Why not give all the energy you have while you’re living? Try new things, go new places and meet new people. Be who you aspire to be and do what you want to accomplish.

STOP MAKING EXCUSES!

Here are three steps to get up, get out and start doing:

 

1.    Take responsibility for your life.

Your life is your responsibility. There may be things that occurred in your past that were unfortunate and unfair. You may have been born into dire circumstances, or there may be people who have treated you unfairly and/or done you wrong. The only way to freely move forward in life is to let it go. You can’t rise to soar with your past pulling you down. It’s an anchor that will keep you from reaching your full potential. Learn to forgive and move on. You have the power to rise above your circumstances and your past to achieve your goals, but first you have to take full responsibility for your life. NO EXCUSES. Find the way and if it doesn’t exist create it. Commitment, focus, determination and perseverance must be non-negotiable.

 

2.   Daily look for ways to go outside of your comfort zone.

You grow by challenging yourself. In order to go where you’ve never gone and do things you’ve never done, you have to go outside your comfort zone. Going outside your comfort zone is scary, uncertain and uncomfortable; but it’s necessary to accomplish your dreams, goals and aspirations. In this space synchronicity happens and opportunities are created. You have to stretch yourself to expand the capacity of your abilities.

 

3.   Incorporate one action step toward your goal into your day.

Every single day commit to doing one thing to get you closer to your goal. The day-by-day steps will add up to significant progress. It’s not huge, extravagant acts that get you there, especially in the beginning stages; instead it’s steady, consistent action. Sometimes the action step may be small and appealing like doing needed research for a company name or sourcing names for freelancers to assist you. Other times the action step may be more cumbersome and time consuming like doing a business plan, cold calling or setting up the legal structure for a new business. The point is to keep taking one step after the other every single day. Tip: Alternate easier steps with more cumbersome ones to keep from getting burnt out or discouraged. Example: Two days of easier steps followed by one day with a more cumbersome one.

Your life is your responsibility. You are only as stuck as you believe you are, and you are only as limited as you allow yourself to be.

Life is your opportunity to make a huge splash instead of barely reaching the shore. Don’t waste it.
