Nourish Your Whole Heart with These 7 Foods

almonds for the heart Nourish Your Whole Heart with These 7 Foods

An ancient Ayurvedic proverb states, “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use; when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.” Did you know that what you eat can go a long way toward promoting heart health? The Mayo Clinic recommends a heart-healthy diet that’s rich in fresh produce, fiber, and healthy fats (like olive oil and avocados). All of these things are considered beneficial from the perspective of Ayurveda as well, though Ayurvedic cooking tends to emphasize easy-to-digest (bioavailable), cooked veggies and meals over a raw approach to food. When considering heart health, Ayurveda also considers both facets of the heart: the physical heart and the emotional heart. Below, you’ll find a list of foods Ayurveda deems especially beneficial for your whole heart.

9 Ways to Stay Positive, Even When You're Sick!

sick-woman-laying-on-sofa-talking-on-telephone-picture-id107429753 9 Ways to Stay Positive, Even When You're Sick!

Your body is precious. It is our vehicle for awakening.Treat it with care. ~ Buddha

Some common advice? When you wake up feeling oh so crapola, don’t fall back on old habits. Try some of these reminders to eat, treat and sleep your way back to good health.

When we are at our weakest, we must be our most vigilant. When we are ill it is so easy to lose our bearings. We push ourselves beyond the breaking point ignoring all the self-care habits that are critical toward living our most authentic lives.

Being ill drains us physically, mentally, and spiritually. It’s at these low points that we tend to fall backwards on much of the progress we are making as we move into our most authentic lives. We say to ourselves that our new habits can be left by the wayside while we try and mend, and then we don’t go back to them. Or we find that balancing healthy, self-nurturing behaviors with a compromised body is simply too overwhelming.

Is Your Home Making You Unwell?

homehealth Is Your Home Making You Unwell?
Our homes are supposed to be a safe haven where we can rest and renew to face an outside world of dangers and stress. However, unfortunately, there are hazards in our homes that you may not even see that can be making you feel unwell.

In the Bathroom

Bathrooms are generally small spaces that are filled with heat and humidity which can promote the growth of mould, human body soil and waste, and chemicals from personal care and cleaning products. Health hazards may lurk on nearly every surface and in the air.

The biggest health dangers come from:

  • Improper cleaning and hand washing that leaves bacteria like E.coli and viruses on surfaces.
  • Cross-contamination from shared use of towels and bathmats that can spread bacteria and fungi like Athlete's Foot.

6 Science-Backed Reasons to Drink Matcha Tea

blog-featured-matcha-20181030 Edited by Ocean Robbins • A version of this article was originally published on Pique Tea.

Is matcha tea good for you? How is it different than other green teas? And are some types of matcha better than others? Get answers and discover some incredible health benefits of drinking matcha tea.

Matcha tea comes from the same plant that originates all green, white, and black teas: the camellia sinensis bush. The name “matcha” literally means “powdered tea.”

The process of turning tea leaves into a powder is not new. Matcha was the primary way to consume tea in China during the Tang Dynasty (600-900 AD).

In the 1100s, a huge transfer of knowledge and culture from China to Japan occurred, and that’s how matcha made its way across the ocean. Matcha and Zen Buddhism flourished together, and the two were often considered inseparable.

By the 1500s, matcha took hold as part of the formal Japanese tea ceremony, which celebrated stillness and simplicity. It grew in popularity in Japan, even as it lost its appeal in China.

How to Use Tapping Therapy To Eliminate Fear, Anxiety & Achieve Your Goals (video)

How to Use Tapping Therapy To Eliminate Fear, Anxiety & Achieve Your Goals How to Use Tapping Therapy To Eliminate Fear, Anxiety & Achieve Your Goals

Tapping Therapy intensely powerful tool that can help you quickly get over your biggest fears and help achieve all of your goals.

Thirty-four years ago, clinical psychologist Dr. Roger Callahan—the originator of tapping therapy—discovered that you could stimulate the instant release of stored emotions.

The instant release occurs by ty tapping along these meridians in acupressure-like fashion while focusing your mind on the past hurt or current stress (phobia, fear, or anxiety).

He called his method Thought Field Therapy or TFT, and today Dr. Callahan’s institute trains practicing therapists, healthcare professionals, and everyday people in how to use tapping therapy both in clinical settings and at home. Others have brought TFT to the masses as the Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT Tapping) and Meridian Tapping Therapy.

The Creativity Chakras

barbara-sinclair-orange-tulips-copy

Because I have been in such an intense phase of creative energy flow, (thank you, vata dosha!), and it was recently National Women's Day, I thought I'd share some information about the two chakras responsible for our creativity.

The second (Svadisthana/Sacral/Sexual) chakra is considered the seat of divine feminine energy and creativity, called shakti in the Hindu tradition. It is the womb, where all things are birthed.

Men and women alike need this feminine creative energy to lead inspiring and fulfilling lives. Creativity does not belong exclusively to artists, musicians, and writers.

The creative force born in the second chakra is available for everyone. It gives meaning to our lives and can be the difference between a life lived in a state of stagnation vs. one filled with joyful inspiration and action.

Located below the navel in the area of the sexual organs, the color associated with the second chakra is orange.

Swadhisthana means "one's own abode" or "dwelling place of the self". It is the pleasure chakra - the chakra of sensuality, sexuality, desire, and our emotions.

Here lie our emotional connections with others.

It is the seat of our creativity.
