Breathing Lessons

If God resides within the breath, what does it mean when you are “short of breath,” with inflammation in the lungs? That was my status, post chemo—another one of the side effects, which it takes 4–6 weeks to resolve. Meanwhile, my breathing was slower, my walking slower, everything slower. Was this God’s way of getting me to slow down (even though my life is not fast-paced)? Perhaps, the message here is “press the pause button on everything and just be in the stillness of the breath, in which God is ever-present.” Nothing is more important. “You’ve dropped all the pieces of your identity; now just rest in the absence of identification, the presence of divinity.” This is what I am hearing, what I am receiving. Another gift of this experience. Because when you find yourself struggling to breathe (as I did one night recently), you are awakened to the slender thread that holds you to life: one single breath at a time is your lifeline to aliveness. And to God.

The Secret of Life

peggy12.24

Every time you inhale and exhale, you are breathing the spirit of life, which is God. That’s the secret: The breath is God. In many languages, the word for spirit is the same as for breath. We hold this wisdom within the depths of our souls because it is what we are made of. Yes, we are human, but our humanity is composed of divine spirit. Your physical form is a sacred temple within which God experiences life on Earth. When you breathe, God is breathing. When you look through your eyes, God is seeing. When you look in another’s eyes, you are both gazing into pools of divinity. The only problem is that we have forgotten. We think that breathing is merely a physical phenomenon that arrives and departs with birth and death.

This Unified Field of Energy is Love

How do we continue to bolster and reaffirm the peace in our lives?

Peace is our natural state of being. First of all, you have to remember who you are and remembering who you are means, remembering how you feel as peace, because this is who you are in this beautiful presence. And this presence is experienced as peace in every moment.

That’s why it’s important to live in breath. Awareness is quite honestly the only practice you’ll ever need because the more you abide in the breath and more you witness each inhalation and exhalation, the more you are remembering the peace that is your natural state of being.

From an adrenaline-based system to a heart-based system: Anchoring the Deep Heart

meditating-guru-boy-picture-id1015300864 From an adrenaline-based system to a heart-based system: Anchoring the Deep Heart

As I now awake to the melodious sound of happy birds instead of rushing people, to the Earth taking a deep breath, the Sun rising up on a new changing planet, I am in gratitude. We have all known that the pace and the impact of humanity without connection consciousness, without care to all beings or one another had to cease somehow. Little did we envision it would come in the form of a tiny particle. Yes there is tremendous hardship and for that my heart goes out. As we deepen together and awaken to the always connected universe, we are transitioning in force and unprecedented collective from normal to natural, from adrenaline-based stress-based living to a true sense of the underlying connection, love and universality based in the heart, our portal of oneness, of love at its highest singularity. We have the opportunity now more than ever to step out of normal which was devastating the planet into a more natural connected, radically inclusive, resonant relationship with our world, all of Creation and the Cosmos.

Why is it important to be aware of the breath?

breathing Why is it important to be aware of the breath?

Try these directions for mindfulness of breathing, a basic concentration practice: When you’re ready to meditate, close your eyes and bring your attention to the motion of your breath as it enters and leaves your nostrils. Keep your focus at the nostrils, noting the full passage of each in-breath and out-breath from beginning to end. Don’t follow the breath into your lungs or out into the air; just watch its flow in and out of the nostrils. If you can, notice the subtle sensations of the breath as it comes and goes. Be aware of each in-breath and out-breath as it passes by the nostrils, just as the doorman watches each person who comes and goes through a door.

Exploring the Power of Deep Breathing

bolivia Exploring the Power of Deep Breathing

In recent years, scientists have proven what ancient wisdom has known: deep breathing can be one of nature’s most potent medicines.

A number of studies now show that deep breathing techniques can release stress and improve a person’s mood, making them feel calmer and trading in feelings of anxiety or fear for a more focused, relaxed state of mind.

Meanwhile, other studies have also explored the effect that breathing has on pain perception, concluding that deep breathing “decisively influences” the way pain is processed and perceived.

According to Daniel Stone, who has explored the art of breathing in depth, conscious breathing can help connect the three main aspects of our being: the body, the mind, and the soul.

Breath

Breath

Life launches with breath. Like a deep sea diver piercing the water’s surface, we emerge with an initial gulp of air. This yearning and receiving marks the start our human unfolding - our last exhalation, its final punctuation. Breathing is fundamental to our existence but usually goes unnoticed, lost in the hum of activity. Our fragile and miraculous lives begin and end with breath - every moment of the journey is stitched with this silvery thread.

Perhaps like most of us, I can overlook what is offered abundantly and value instead what is rare and fleeting. As a swimmer, I tried to maximize my lung capacity to go further and faster but it was cancer that taught me to go deeper. My lungs had filled with fluid, and tumors in my abdomen made every breath a chore. Wrestling for each inhalation, I felt the paradox of abundance and lack. There was more than enough air in the room but there was a scarcity of space in my lungs. I had to relax and focus on breathing out in order to create space to breathe in. I had to let go in order to receive.

What is the power of the breath?

What is the power of the breath?

The idea behind following the breath is that you have this web of thoughts which you are working with at the same time. They are these models that underlie our behavior and there is also the “stuff” of our experience. What this technique does is to take one thought and ask your awareness to stay with that thought, and thus extricate yourself from identification with all the other thoughts. It’s very simple.
