It's Time to Step Out of Line

I've Been Thinking...

This week, I found myself sitting in my New York City hotel room trying to gather my thoughts as I reflected on the wide range of emotions that I’ve felt over the last few days. I found myself thinking about how I’ve felt inspired, ignited and encouraged as I’ve witnessed so many different women take my breath away.

Sunday night at the Emmy’s, award-winning actress Alex Borstein used her acceptance speech to speak about her grandmother, who barely survived the Holocaust. Borstein said that her grandmother dared to “step out of line," even though she was at risk of being shot. In doing so, her grandmother saved her life, and ultimately created a life that allowed for Borstein and her children to be here today.

“So, step out of line, ladies,” Borstein said as she clutched her Emmy. “Step out of line.”

Women's Voices: Speaking Truth to Power

IMG_0667-1200x900

“We are a land of many colors,
and we are singing,
singing, for our lives.”
—Holly Near

In last fall’s elections, the U.S. Congress saw a refreshing new influx of those who have been left out of the legislative process far too long—specifically, women and people of color. African-American, Native-American, Latina, and Muslim women were elected from various states across the country. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York is one of them. Since her surprise unseating of the incumbent there, she has been relentlessly criticized by nervous politicians from both parties for her outspoken and uncensored comments about the President and all those in power. Many of those criticisms show just how much public opinion panders to “acceptable” behavior for political candidates, and women in particular.

Divine Feminine Rising: What Is Really Rising

divinefeminine The Divine Feminine
I do think it is aspicious that the Divine Feminine is being honored in some ways by men and the collective. SHE however is not “rising” for she has been here above all the division creating life infinitely from the beginning …our conscious awareness of it is rising .

Women everywhere no matter what the circumstance have risen in the midst of the refusal of acknowledgement of her power and presence for Eons, silently or passionately voicing for the many. The Divine Feminine within each one of us on this planet has given rise to compassion, intuition, inclusivity, cooperation, vision, expanded senses, deep heart intelligence and most importantly unconditional love that reaches beyond reason, time and space. The so called “super powers” birth from the Divine Feminine, have historically been feared and thus pushed aside as soft power. What is perhaps really rising is the genius and truth of connection, infinite and inherent, encoded in the DNA of all life known and unknown. This is part of the unfolding mystery of the Divine Feminine. She is ever present yet cannot be summoned “on demand.”

A Reflection on this Historic Moment

american-flag-picture-id485131034 A Reflection on this Historic Moment

“All the possibilities of your human destiny are asleep in your soul. You are here to realize and honor these possibilities.”  — John O’Donohue

The other morning, I picked up a copy of my local newspaper and simply stopped and stared at the front page. Right there staring back at me were the pictures of multiple women running for president. The cover story was about how each of them is pursuing the highest office in their own way. But before I could even read the article, I had to pause and take in the historic nature of their photos.

As I stood there at my kitchen counter, I thought back to myself as a young girl. What would it have been like for me to see that photo back then? What must it be like for young girls to see that now? I also thought about my mother and all the women who blazed the trail that has allowed so many women to be taken seriously today. We owe them our gratitude.

Over the last few days, I’ve also been thinking about what it must be like for any young boy or girl or LGBTQ or person of color today to look at the field of candidates and see someone who looks like them? It’s really quite remarkable. We have the most diverse field of candidates ever (with Sen. Cory Booker being the latest to announce his run) and I, for one, think that is very exciting and promising.

The Eternal Feminine Brings Wholeness

The Eternal Feminine Brings Wholeness

A genuine social upheaval has begun, its theme is the empowerment of women. Old attitudes that have resulted in many kinds of unfairness are being challenged. The long-suppressed outrage of sexual harassment has been exposed to the light of day. No one with a heart and a conscience can do anything but respond with encouragement. It’s about time.

Rising from a position of weakness to become stronger, turning old wounds into a source of healing—these are important changes in anyone’s life. The eternal feminine has been a running thread in human culture for thousands of years, but each generation has to reinterpret it, and at the moment, embedded in a secular society where daily demands and distractions are the rule, envisioning the eternal feminine requires going deeper into our self-awareness.

Everyone’s source is pure awareness, which has no gender. When pure awareness manifests into creation, gender isn’t in evidence, either. When you wake up from deep sleep and become aware of your existence, the experience has no labels. The issues of masculine and feminine enter in a social context, defined by your beliefs, attitudes, and mental conditioning. To be a woman is to be a creation of many factors, going far beyond the physiological.
