I’ve always felt a special bond with Dr. Joan Borysenko. I remember watching her on PBS and learning about her groundbreaking work on how our mind and body are connected and how the power of our mind can greatly improve our health. I was thrilled when I got to see Joan live on stage back then at the old Harvard Theater in Cambridge.
Little did I know that years later, I’d be fortunate enough to share the stage with Joan at many conventions and events during our days at Hay House. We’ve done so many shows together, I feel like we’ve become true soul friends!
It would take me a few newsletters to list all of Joan’s credentials and accolades. She’s a New York Times best-selling author, pioneer in integrative medicine and world-renowned expert on the mind/body connection. Joan earned her doctorate in Medical Sciences from the Harvard Medical School, and has been empowering all of us over the last three decades to be aware of how our mind, body and soul work together to help us live our best life.
Oh, and I must add that Joan and her husband Dr. Gordon Dveirin share their home in the Land of Enchantment—Sante Fe, New Mexico, with two of the sweetest standard poodles—Milo and Miss Mitzi.
On December 14th, Joan is releasing an updated version of one of her most inspiring books—Pocketful of Miracles. “Of all my books, this one is perhaps, the one I hold most dear,” Joan says. “It has been my constant companion for the past 27 years.”
Joan created this collection of prayers, meditations and affirmations so we could follow along for every day of the year. She’s drawn these daily practices from all of the world’s great spiritual traditions to bring us closer to the Divine and help us nurture our souls.
What I enjoy most about this book is that Joan gives us themes to work on for each month—such as Loving kindness, Courage, Gratitude, Forgiveness, Purpose—all vital elements to help us connect with our souls. She also includes many daily practices to assist you on your soul journey, including mindful walking, contemplative prayers, centering meditations and breathing exercises.
Here’s a quote from the book’s intro that really moved my soul: “Peace on earth begins with peace in our own souls.” What a great sentiment as the holidays are approaching!
I’m so blessed to have Joan in my life. Her inspiring words and wisdom have certainly kept me going over the years. And whenever I hear about a new book or resource that may benefit you on your own soul journey, I want to let you know about it.
Joan’s new edition of Pocketful of Miracles is being published by Balance—a new imprint of Grand Central Publishing, and is now available for pre-order at Amazon, Barnes&Noble, Books-A-Million and your favorite local bookstore. I already ordered my copy!
