It's easy to forget that we are all perfect in our own design. Sometimes we muck it up with habits and choices that do not serve us.

Gratitude - A Friendly Reminder

The other day I had a conversation… Well, I listened to her as she talked via this awesome app called Marco Polo. It probably has been around forever and I am just now getting into the shoestrings of it.

What can I say? I am not a techy.

Anyways, the app is a way to keep in touch with people in a more personal way than texting or even sending a pic of yourself on your latest adventure. You record your message and the recipient can listen to it whenever they get a chance and actually see your darling face! It is like having a real conversation with a real person.

I know! Who knew?

Enough of my tangent on the app.

My friend said something that really resonated with me right now. I had shared with her my goals with expanding into doing workshops and more speaking engagements. How I want to help other women, specifically, and I had recently had a small speaking engagement. My first! But it felt like I was in my element. I went on in my message about how I was nervous before I even got there, but once I arrived, it just came naturally. It felt right!

My friend returned the message and told me that she could feel it from me and that she, too, believes that I am headed in the right direction. That God has a plan for my life. She expressed how she really believed this and went on to say something along the lines of:

“I hear you. I am in the same season and I know that God will bring bigger. Wait. I am trying to make a conscious effort not to say BIGGER because I feel that when I say BIGGER and BETTER it invalidates where I am in my life right now. And where I am in the present moment; I should be thankful for and I AM grateful.”

This got me thinking.

It hit me and I just circled this for the remainder of the afternoon and into the evening.

Here you are. Wanting and wishing for bigger, better, more and you have so much to be grateful for NOW.

Okay. I meditate daily and practice gratitude as well. And I know how easy it is to get distracted. Life takes over and your gratitude becomes overthrown quickly with fixations on the problems that arise in your day. Then before you know it, it seems virtually impossible to find even one thing about the day to be grateful for.

But there was something piercing (in a great way) about what she was saying. It was a spiritual reminder.

This is the same friend who constantly reminds me that it isn’t about how you get there or how you will make it happen. It is just that you put in the work.

While it is always good to aspire for greatness and to achieve more. The idea that it isn’t about the what we are achieving or where we are going is lightening. Perhaps, it is quite simply that we are able to appreciate the journey that the process of getting there takes us on. Maybe, it is about having gratitude today for who we are. And the end goal is never to be compared to the goals of others because we all have our own unique voice and the way to which we utilize it will speak to a different audience each and every time we choose to use it.

So instead of wishing for bigger and better. How about we accept the process and take it one day at a time so that at the end of our journey we will be exactly where we are meant to be.

Soaking up the gratitude today that once belonged to yesterday.
