I've Been Thinking...

Can you believe that on this day many years ago (although not that many years ago), people lined up to get the very first polio vaccine?

Seeing the picture above really made me stop and think this week. It made me think about the life-saving work being done by scientists and researchers as they toil in small rooms for years trying to find a cure that will one day help us all. It made me think about the importance of investing in this type of work. It also made me think about how often history feels like it repeats itself. 

The other day, a friend said to me, "I’m so over 2020! It’s nothing like I thought it would be." 

That, my friends, is an understatement! I don’t think any of us thought we would find ourselves here. None of us could have predicted that we would be sheltering in place this spring. The 26 million Americans who have now filed for unemployment also couldn’t have predicted they would find themselves here. 

We couldn’t have imagined that we would be waiting in long lines and standing six feet apart to get into supermarkets, just to buy the essentials. We couldn’t have imagined that we would be waiting to get tested for a disease that most of us had never even heard of a few months ago. I’m sure none of us would have thought that our country would have been so ill-prepared to fight this pandemic. I know I didn’t.

Use Feedback to Your Advantage

Once you begin to take action on a project or a goal, you’ll start getting feedback about whether you’re doing the right thing.  You’ll get data, advice, help, suggestions, direction – and even criticism – that will help you constantly adjust and move forward, while continually enhancing your knowledge, abilities, attitudes and relationships.

But asking for feedback is really only the first part of the equation.  Once you receive feedback you have to be willing to embrace it and respond to it.

Positive or Negative … it’s ALL good!

There are two kinds of feedback you might encounter, negative and positive. We tend to prefer the positive: results, money, praise, promotion, raise, awards, happiness, inner peace, etc. It feels better. It tells us we are on course and doing the right thing.

We tend not to like negative feedback: lack of results, little or no money, criticism, poor evaluations, complaints, unhappiness, inner conflict, pain, etc.

However, there is as much useful data in negative feedback as there is in positive feedback. It tells us that we are off course, headed in the wrong direction, and doing the wrong thing. This is priceless information!

Money and Happiness

Does money buy happiness? Experts will tell you “no, of course not,” but according to a new survey, 90 percent of the top 1 percent of U.S. household income earners—those who earn $500,000 per year or more—claim to be “completely” or “very” satisfied with their lives overall. 

If money doesn’t buy happiness, then what’s going on here?

The Difference Between Wealth and REAL WEALTH

The 1 percent that are completely or highly satisfied with their lives are embodying what I call “living in a state of REAL WEALTH” rather than just a state of monetary wealth. Monetary wealth is unsustainable in terms of supplying happiness since it relies entirely on external factors to provide fulfillment. REAL WEALTH is deeply satisfying since it goes much deeper than that.

Where is the Virus taking us?

Wouldn’t ya know! The enemy isn’t Russian, Chinese, or even North Korean. It’s not an enemy that the Pentagon can shoot down with a missile. Not one the NRA can aim an AK-47 at, shouting “Make my day!” 
 

It’s just a tiny invisible thing that under the microscope resembles my grandmother’s pin cushion. 
 

But, it’s got us – Russians, Chinese, North Koreans, Americans, everyone – asking:
 

When will the Coronavirus crisis end and we return to normal? 
 

The simple and obvious answer, yet one that may seem difficult to accept, is: “Never.” 
 

Never?
 

Yup. The old normal is gone. Global catastrophes like wars and the Great Depression change the world forever and this pandemic will have similar impacts to those of a major war or depression. Except the enemy is invisible. We won’t be breaking any bent-knees-general’s sword or demanding surrender conditions from a bomb-vested terrorist.

From the moment you were born, throughout your childhood, early adolescence, and late teens, you have been conditioned out of your authenticity and away from your Divine Essence.

You have been influenced and altered, so you could please others. You have conformed, learning to live from fear, inadequacy, and scarcity, because those are the energies that dominate the world you live in, where it is wrong to get angry, to feel sadness, to feel pain. You created a facade that was good enough

Everywhere you looked, there it was—­conditioning, an insidious control mechanism that makes you believe you must think, look, speak, and act a certain way to gain love and acceptance.

Money, Money, Money

I want to talk about money, money, money, money, money, money.

I know it’s kind of a risky topic to talk about when we’re in the middle of a pandemic.

But you know me, I like to be on the risky end.

I think it is a conversation we need to have right now.

We cannot be in fear. Or I should say we cannot STAY in fear.

So…let’s talk about fear and start with the Law of Attraction.

Whatever you put your attention on gets bigger. For example, if you put your attention on your fears around your family being sick, then that worry, and fear grows inside of YOU.

If you put your attention on the fear around money, then it makes the fear bigger in you. And when it gets bigger in you, it attracts more of the like.

There are lots and lots of things that are happening right now in your present-day experience that have not ever happened.

People are juggling many areas of their lives and doing the best they can with what they know.

It is time to rebuild

Much of the unconscious world is collapsing under its own weight.

Many forms of commerce are hitting full stop. Ships are idle. Planes are empty. Even automobiles are parked without riders.

As old establishments fail, this is making room for new institutions and ways of living that are more fruitful and productive.

There will be some rebuilding of the old norm but, in many cases, new organizations will offer something fresh, something new, something conscious.

Those of us on the conscious journey have been calling forth a new humanity and a new earth.

Could it be that we’ve found our moment in the midst of so much challenge and hardship?

Perhaps.

A friend of mine, who is a gifted attorney, is leaving his lucrative practice to create educational programs for conscious professionals. This is a calling so, even though it is scary on many levels, he is moving forward with plans.

When Life Gets Chaotic, Try This Exercise

Let’s take a few minutes and get mindful today. Mindfulness is the opposite of distraction. The more mindful you are, the more aware you’ll become of yourself, what’s going on inside of you, as well as what’s going on outside and beyond yourself. It’s a great exercise for your soul.

Find a comfortable place to sit. Keep your feet flat on the floor and your hands comfortably on your lap. Use your nose to inhale as well as exhale. Practice this breathing meditation for 20 minutes. Each step should take 5 minutes:

Shakespeare, COVID, and the Plague

Social isolation gives us time to examine our lives in a new light, suddenly faced with economic collapse, empty streets, current panic and future uncertainty, and death appearing out of nowhere—in other words, the conditions that confronted every person on a daily basis during the lifetime of Shakespeare. What feels horribly abnormal to us was routinely normal for him and every member of the human race in the 16th century.

In statistical terms, Shakespeare is just another survivor. Unlike his son, Hamnet, who died at 11, Shakespeare didn’t die as a child, nor did his mother die giving birth to him. He also escaped the plague. Ever since the Black Death swept across the globe in the 14th century, bubonic plague remained a threat, killing on average one to three people in every house where it struck. In Shakespeare’s lifetime, there were four plague years, 1582, 1592, 1603, and 1607, when London, including its theaters, shut down because of the disease.

Soul Agreements

We each come into our human lifetimes with an individual soul plan, which we then forget at birth. God, however, remembers, and God’s presence as the soul continuously reminds us of that plan. What may seem a complete falling apart of everything in your life is really only a divine rerouting to keep you on course for what you agreed to experience, and expand with, before you incarnated. Your soul always remembers. When you begin to live consciously as your soul, you won’t feel so blindsided by life events. At the highest and deepest levels, everything is unfolding as it is meant to.

Revival

I have been daydreaming about a lovely family vacation in Hawaii with my children and husband. I have also been wanting some easy travel in a hippy van with my husband and dogs. I imagine us sitting outside under the stars. Both sound really good right now! In the past, if I found myself needing a break from daily life, I would plan a trip. Maybe I would go, or I would not, but it was always an option. Currently, the thing I would like to get away from the most will join me wherever I am. The pandemic has created a shadow over the state of mind for many people and places. This is not all bad.

One of the blessings of our global health concern is a reminder of wherever you go, there you are. The only way to escape the feeling of crisis is to get comfortable with who you are and your relationship with everything. You can’t escape you or the Universe!

This outbreak could be the catalyst for us becoming a mindful and evolved species.

Why?

In every life, reminders arrive about what’s really important.

I’ve received some myself, as I’m sure you have, too. Perhaps it was news of a potentially serious health problem, the death of a loved one, or an accident that could have turned fatal. These are uncomfortably concrete message that sooner or later something will catch up with each one of us.

When I’m pierced with one of these reminders, it’s like there are three layers in my mind. The top layer is focused on problem-solving. Beneath that is what seems like a furry little animal that’s upset and wants to curl up and be hugged. The bottom layer feels accepting, peaceful, and grateful.

Discovering Your True Life Purpose

Discover what you need to notice that can lead you to your life purpose.

What does it really mean to “follow your bliss?”

One of the main tenets of Inner Bonding is that all our feelings are informational—letting us know when we are loving ourselves and when we are abandoning ourselves, and letting us know when something external to us is loving or safe, or unloving or dangerous. Our true bliss can be highly informational for us.

Bliss can be defined as complete happiness, delight, spiritual joy, ecstasy—a bit of heaven. The opposite of bliss is misery.

Sometimes this can get confusing, as when people say they are “blissed out” from a drug or from sex. Getting blissed out on drugs or sex is not going to lead you toward a healthy life of passion, meaning and purpose for you. In fact, this kind of bliss will likely prevent you from finding your true life purpose.

We who are alive at this time are bridges between the old and the new, Heaven and Earth, humanity and divinity. To hold all that within us requires great courage as well as deep inner peace. Stop Animating What Makes You Ache

If we see how much of our unhappiness is self-created, through being inattentive to our own interior life, then accordingly, we can learn to re-direct our attention, placing it where we will within what is right and bright. But, there is only one way to realize this reversal: we must work to see how wrongly directed attention works against us.

Perhaps a thought pops into your mind about a problem that’s been bothering you. Appearing with it is some emotional disturbance. Now the thought starts rolling, growing in its demand for your attention. Almost instantly it has defined what needs to be done, or what you are powerless to do. And both states accomplish the same dark end: you’ve unknowingly animated that thought and given it a life -- and the life you’ve given it is your own! Here’s an example of how this scene might unfold:

A man is walking through his office when his boss walks by and gives him a blank look. The thought pops into the man’s mind that his boss is criticizing him or doesn’t like him. Now, as he starts to fear this idea -- a negative picture produced by his imagination -- his mind focuses its attention on this disturbing image. And the more he attends to this dark dream, the further into its labyrinth he descends, strengthening its presence and power to further irritate him. A heartbeat later, he has no doubt: the boss has it in for him! This thought grows in authority for him, tormenting him for the rest of the day and causing him to snap at his family when he gets home. And all of this suffering is born of what? The conjunction of a passing glance and a moment of misdirected attention!

Locked down While the Earth has this Chance to Heal Itself

Humans are on lockdown to give the planet a minute to rebirth. Turtles are able to lay eggs on the beaches without human interference, polluted skies are clearing, fish are jumping, birds are singing, the deer and the antelope are playing. Look at us.

We will be back but maybe we have learned a thing, or two. The universe is gifting us with a second chance to get it right - to discover (or rediscover) what is truly important to us. The gift is an equalizer. Everyone is affected equally - rich, poor, white, black, gay, straight - Finally.... We are one. Finally we are in this together and for each other. It is not your thing, or my thing - it is our thing.

It is as if we were spinning out of control - faster and faster and faster and the universe hit the brakes. Just stop, take a breath, begin anew. Begin anew with new and fresh and fair paradigms.
