It's easy to forget that we are all perfect in our own design. Sometimes we muck it up with habits and choices that do not serve us.

One Light, Many Reflections – River Highlights

One Light, Many Reflections – River Highlights One Light, Many Reflections – River Highlights

I began a private daily writing exercise in 1996 and never stopped. I have written over three thousand pages.

I write one page at a time, with only one to five words per line. The structure can look like poetry but has more to do with the physical limitations of a handwritten page and my desire to emphasize multiple meanings. My Page poems are a combination of sketch pad and journal.

The history and method of my writing process can be found in my article How I Wrote Three Thousand Pages Without Trying

It can feel unsettling to let go of concerns for punctuation, sentence structure and the rules of grammar but it is a natural part of my writing style to allow ideas to flow. The samples shared here are the original raw versions.

Love is not concerned with blocks
Love’s attention is on openings
It is natural for rivers to have stones
Every chosen path has its obstacles

The river is drawn by a power
Greater than any obstacle.
When the river meets a stone
It simply builds its strength and volume
Until it easily flows over or around the stone
Gradually turning mountains into sand

Let me remember
This is the path I have chosen
And not bemoan my fate

In every heartbeat
In every breath
There is an opportunity to choose again

The path of awakening
Is a lifetime re-commitment
Flowing like a river
Constantly changing
With only one goal in mind
To be all I Am

Beloved Stones

WHAT AM I ? cried the raindrop
as it splashed into the muddy pond

The pond flowed into a creek
Asking What am I ?

Twisting and turning the creek became a river
Wondering What am I ?

Quietly under a golden moon the river met the sea,
and asked What am I ?

But this time listening….

And listening…

An answer came

What I Am in the beginning I must always be.

I am more than rain,
more than a river and even more than a sea.

It’s not a leap of faith
To take a step

Only needs to exist
In this moment
Not for all eternity

May be inconvenient
But a river
Will rise above
Every stone

Destiny will flow
Regardless of conditions

Just go

Do what you need to do
and get to the next

Landscape to landscape
The journey goes on

You cannot see the end
Of an around-the-world journey
Only the next step

Just Go

Water is the companion
To all elements

Water is so in love
With its companions.

Grateful as the Earth
Holds the rivers, lakes, and puddles
Water will even become solid as ice
To understand the Earth
To be as the Earth

Water will destroy itself
To touch the fire
And cool its flames
Transmuting itself into vapor
To become more like air
Water wants to understand air
To be as the air

Water is often associate with love
It flows receptively to take the form of its container
Without surrendering its identity as water

Water is willing to adapt
To its conditions
But never change what it is

Water is the lover of all elements

Elemental Lover

“The river doesn’t mind the rain. Water only knows itself as water, we are the ones who call it rain and rivers.” Will Hale 2014

“Rivers rarely flow in a straight line. They are always flexible to conditions but persistent in their destination.” Will Hale 10-20-15

“We may not step into the exact same river twice but rivers are rivers and water is water
It’s only my self that is different.” Will Hale 7-1-19

The best way to protect our precious water is to love it. What we love we naturally want to protect.
